Mullen to UCONN. He could then be close to his New Hampshire home state, and take his fellow yankee buddies, Hevesy and Sallach, with him.

yeah that's Dan's biggest problem....he's a yankee. It's also hurt Nick Saban a lot too, not to mention Les Miles.

For a team that is supposed to hate Rebels, some of our fans sure seem to hate Yankees a lot.**

What is to gain by firing a coach midseason?

Really. Unless the team has gone totally out of control or the coach wrecks his motorcyle with his mistress/employee riding along. UConn is centainly not going to turn their season around now. Mullen or any other canidate isnt' going to leave their current job midseason to take over UConn or USC. I guess it is the new college football cool.

Really sucks for the players

You would think that some of them would want to transfer after the AD guts their program 4 games into the season; basically putting their reputation ahead of any chance the team may have to save 6 wins and enjoy a bowl. Not to say that they would have realistically been anymore competitive, but I'm sure the players feel like they've been shorted & given up on.

Arkansas fired their coach, Jack Crowe, after the opening game of the '92 season when they lost to The Citadel.

You avoid spending an entire season recruiting with a coach that is officially or unofficially a lame duck.

But it only helps if either:

(1) You're a destination school like USC. They can pay the ogre to keep recruiting and sell the recruits that want to play at USC (more than they wanted to play for a specific coach) that you are going to go out and buy a top notch coach.

(2) You somehow have a good coaching candidate that you can hire midseason. Not sure I know of an example of this actually happening.

But I'm guessing coaches are fired midseason because AD's have to show donors they are serious, not because there is really a lot to gain compared to waiting until the end of the season.

This would be the best case scenario for everyone.

Dan gets to be closer to his home, the university rids itself of someone who is ready to move onward and upward and we, the fans, get a young and energetic coach who is proving that he knows how to win.

Earl Campbell say Brown needs to go.

I really don't understand that line of reasoning. I guess at least parts of Mississippi are still in the dark ages.
