Massillon played better in the 2nd half, but it seemed to be a case of over achievement. Combine that with the Flyers under achieving and the refs serving up some home cooking with extra seasoning and we get our result. Flyers were clearly the far better team.
Home cooking sure, But not an excuse the Flyers simply is not good defensively this year or special teams. They will not make it past second round in 7A if so quarters is it.
I'm sure they'll make it past the 2nd round. Flyers should still go deep in the playoffs.
This ^. Plus 7a hasn't been quite what it used to be. I don't think there's many teams that can hang with the Flyers in 7a. I won't be too concerned about the Flyers until maybe the Semi's.
What in the name of Dana Howard has happened to ESL linebackers? Defense used to be the beautiful part of the ESL game - can any of those long D lineman play standing up?
Damn shame. They certainly looked like the better. But it's hard to overcome a 27-5 penalty discrepancy, but one of those drives by Massillon was aided by a couple offsides including on 4th and short so East Side controlled their future.
It's what I counted. It's not official and it could be off a little bit, but not much. There were some plays with multiple flags that weren't always addressed.
When there is that big of difference in penalty, either #1 East side are a poorly disciplined team or #2 the referees are incompetent, biased or worst. Or #3 maybe Illinois referees don't know how to throw that many flags or have injured shoulders thereby negating any penalties. IMO, I'll take #2.
I’ve seen some Illinois ref crews throw a ton of laundry. One game it was about every 4th play it seemed but I don’t think I have ever seen a team get 27 yellow presents in one game! Maybe 15 or 16. There is no way all those flags were legit. Some had to be made up or the catchall unsportsmanlike flag which the refs can throw at anytime for whatever reason they might want to throw it.

I pick #2 in last nights game too. But will not use that as an excuse. The flyers have not had over 6 penalties in one game the last 3 years. Again not an excuse they still have to play defense.
Flyerforlife it's not about excuses in this one. It's about fairness and the Flyer's weren't treated fairly in this game.
