I'm happy I was able to witness my alma mater win its 8th state title. I swear the refs made its business to keep the game close. That bogus block in the back penalty on that screen pass to Jeff Thomas was horrible. The flag was thrown on the opposite from where the play went. Came back and got it anyway. That defense was sick today. They came, & they conquered. That pick 6 tool the air kuy of Plainfield

Great game. I'm very excited to be able to witness this one. Parade Monday in ESL. I will be there. Also pretty impressed with the conservative play calling by the flyers. We could have scored 40 but a win is a win. Sunk is a great coach. I can see big things in his future. College offensive coordinator

Has ESL ever played a single football game where their "fans" didn't complain about the refs?

When they lose or play a close game the "Flyers Faithful" always have a looong list of excuses for why ESL didn't win or why the game wasn't a blow out.

For a group of people that knowingly root for one of the dirtiest programs in the state, you guys sure like to play the victim, even when ESL wins.

Hmmm I Wonder where this is going?

You see "where this is going" huh?

Just asked a simple question. I've never heard as much whining about the refs as I do from ESL fans. Hell, they will even complain about the refs before a game is played.

The program is dirty though, no doubt. They play by their own set of rules. You from the area? It's well known and Sunkett and his staff OPENLY recruit, even after being caught red handed years ago adding players from Cahokia and North STL.

GC had a stud freshman QB this past year. How much you wanna bet he's ESL's "new" WR or even QB next year? Sunkett has already talked to ge kid.

Objectively speaking, great team this year, no doubt. But again, they aren't a "High School" team like the teams they play week in and week out. They are more of a renegade football team.

New transfer LB and RB this year. Two new "transfers" last year, that's how you plug holes and keep from having down years!!

Hell, they didn't have enough players to field a Soph OR freshman team this year so they just went around with one "underclass" team comprised of a few freshman and sophs and some Juniors. This same "team" would play other schools "freshman" team then their "Soph" team. This is after many of those same kids played in the Varsity game. (My buddy has two kids at a school that played against ESL, one a Frosh and one a Soph. I saw all theee games and can confirm this as I saw it with my own eyes.

Apparently there was no communication about this before the games so you had juniors that saw Varsity time on one of the best teams in the state playing against freshman. Not only that but they then ran the score up as much as they could.

Word spread to other teams and I heard other schools basically canceled their "Frosh" game with ESL and only played one game against that "underclass" team.

Dirty.

Spare me all of the excuses and rationalizations. I've heard every single on of them already.

Congrats on the state title. Again, ESL had a great all star renegade team this year. 14-0!!

That's his complaint - Junior not getting praise and glory beyond the first round playoffs apparently.

When other people see it, or even commentating the games. They wonder where the penalty was at. I watched the fumble 3x's on the one they recovered . The ref clearly saw East Side man had the ball and came out of the pile with it. They knew the game was about to get ugly. Im surprised they didn't call illegal use of defense awareness on a pass play. They called an illegal equipment penalty on the against Willowbrook. Call it fair. No matter if they're at home or road. What makes you call them one of the dirtiest programs in the state?

Don't know where this is coming from, but, I can tell you with my "own eyes" what I saw at 2 ESL play off games this year. I saw them put an *** kicking on Willowbrook and I saw their large group of traveling fans. Saw nothing out of line at all. did they have a bunch of penalties? sure. did they play "dirty" cheap shots? nope.

Then our team, Benet, played them. Was their uncalled penalties? Sure. Was their "dirty play"? not at all. just a hard played game. Did I want another outcome? you bet! did I want my kid on the field for 35 minutes of clock time on defense? not at all. Whose fault was that? Benet's, that is what happens in a game.

They beat us, fair and square and outside of a couple of outliers (which every team has some) the fans were perfectly fine. sure they were exuberant, who wouldn't be, nothing out of line.

Not only that, but, if you want to start that non-boundry crap (and I am a "private") get lost. they voluntarily moved up a class, so that removes that argument (if it even existed).

Trying to say they somehow took a shortcut to their championship really, really does a disservice to the entire concept of fair play. Those kids earned that championship.

Not for nothing, but, I seriously thought in the title game they took their foot off the pedal almost the entire second half, they could have put up another 20 points easily.

Interestingly.... filing in behind them for the 8A game, I was somewhat shocked. This was my first experience with anything to do with ESL. Watching the better part of the 2nd half from the upper area, I noticed quite a few spirited encounters away from the play. Not exactly "dirty" nor worthy of a flag. Questionable.. anh. It was consistant enough though to believe that while it might not be encouraged, it certainly wasn't frowned upon.

Seemed like they were doing everything they could to dominate even on an emotional level.

Best way to deal with teams like this is to give it back twice as much early. Hit their receivers on EVERY play, drawing a flag if need be. Pop em hard. Otherwise you'll be dealing with it all night.

NOW, filing down into the crowd after the game enlightened me on a whole new level. The majority of the fans leaving were extremely cordial, pleasant, and well spoken. The ones that remained, and there were a lot, were not quite as civil to deal with.

WOW.

What's civil in Park Ridge? You must understand, the two communities could not be more of polar opposites.
Average Household Income in Park Ridge - $136,670
Median Home Sale Price $315,000

Average Household Income in East St. Louis - $28,277
Median Home Sale Price $39,450

Are you saying the fans were violent or were you just scared? Were some fans louder than what you are accustomed to? Maybe used some salty language? At least the majority were "well spoken."

You did after week one which shocking and rewarding for me. If one of the hardest critics believed in ESL, I felt strongly that it was going to be a great year.

To be clear, I never thought the criticism was negative.

Right, critic is a strong word in this case but we have talked about under achieving several times before.
Again, not in a negative way. Whenever I see something strong from yourself, Dean, JCHill, Newt etc, I tend to pay attention. Oh yeah, Bones too.

I would think a good portion of Maine South fans would be quietly confident in their ability to "deal" with the rowdier representatives of the ESL fan base. Maybe not on that same afternoon but, in some "bad luck" a couple days from then. (see also Driscoll)

Yes, but my comments geared more to the rest of the schools in the region, IIRC. Either way, GO FLYERS!

Lots of tough guy/wise guy in Park Ridge.
Tough guy??

I haven't had the opportunity to respond to the socioeconomic lesson above, but my hopes would be that if you saw and heard what many of our younger kids heard from the ESL folks you would at least be embarrassed enough to understand.

One typically doesn't hear that type of language in public, much less out of Championship people.

Neither do "championship people" go out of their way on a message board to besmirch a specific teenage opponent.

In some ways, I wish you weren't DEAD WRONG about what you said, because issuing an apology lets you weasel your way off the hook where you belong. EVEN IF THE KID HAD BEEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LINE after "the game that mattered most," it does not justify you saying what you said.

Oh Ramble-on... how quickly YOU of all people are to ramble about things unless it's your own..
I apologized because I was dead wrong and had the facts wrong...no excuses.

If it were true however, I wouldn't feel the least bit bad in that going to the front of the line to gloat and be obnoxious was worth mentioning in a win situation against us. The fact that he did it in a loss situation suggests he was owning it. Great for him and again, my apologies for getting it wrong. In either case, from this point further YOU will never question a players behavior because you never have. RIOIIGHT.

If I were a weasel I would have avoided it much like you do with your deflections and banter. You sir are a pro at this. Unlike yourself, I'm willing to own what I say good or bad, and willing to admit when I'm wrong.
That being said... your kids could take a dump on the field and you would call it gold. While berating the other team for the same.

Remember....SATURDAY COULDNT COME SOON ENOUGH.
Was it... oooh you will be sooory okie
What was your point?

My only bummer out of the whole thing was not being able to shove it in your face. Nobody else.
JUST YOU. Knowing your punk *** was hating it only made it that much sweeter for me.

Nobody else... JUST YOU.

Since I wasn't afforded the luxury of watching you with a pen and paper scribbling your excuses and whine, picking apart the game and officiating...

I took the liberty to purchase for you a silver pacifier and spoon set engraved with Ramble-on on the spoon, and "I'm a NIPL" on the passy.

I will bring it to the first meeting for the ORDER OF THE NIPL and present it to you... face to face.

Me and my dad went to Cardinal games since when men smoked cigars in the stands, bought their beer and drank their whiskey from flasks.

Somehow talked my Dad into taking me to professional wrestling matches at the Kiel Auditorium in the 80s when ...

And some ESL fans rumpled your panties?
