Starmount is dedicating the field after Coach Joe Hutchens who passed in January. He led Rams to state title in 1998.

First matchup between coaching brothers Caleb (ES) and Josh (ST) Pardue.

Both teams coming off tough season opening losses.

Thoughts?

East Surry should bring a lunch and bring son pillows to use on the way home, because I believe the Cardinals are in for good old fashion butt kicking.
Good luck to both teams and hoping for no injuries on a very special night.

If Starmount gets those starters back and cleans up some of their self-inflicted wounds, they could be a real problem.

Starmount - 35
ES - 17

I agree. I went back and watched some of the game against Mt Airy. I wasn't sure if missing those two players would've made a difference but after looking at one of the scores up the middle I think there's a possibility that it could've. Still it wouldn't have compensated for the self inflicted wounds to allow them to win the game but it shows the potential of the Rams this year.
Starmount may still be without those starters for this game.

The Boaz led East Surry teams put a hurting on some weaker Ram teams during the last period when they played each other. I think the Rams start a revenge tour against East Surry starting this year.

Excited to see the Pardue brothers battle it out on each sideline.

I don't think they would have helped as much on defense as they would on offense. I thought the defense played pretty well other than a few big runs by a great player. That just happens.

Speaking of those ES teams from a few years ago, that young receiver that wasn't playing reminds me a little of the older Gosnell.

Rodriguez starts at safety so Best would have been fresher on offense instead of playing 28 snaps on defense.

Propst had a big game with 12 tackles, 5 TFL, and a sack.

It’s Hall of Fame night as well. Should be a good crowd for this game.

Poor Kenny & Dawn Pardue seeing their sons go at it Friday.

I think Billips quickness at linebacker might have prevented the touchdown run up the middle had he been able to play. It's all speculation though. I do agree with Deana about Deuce not being able to rest. That may have played more of a factor than the other. The play up the middle from Martin, Deuce missed the tackle. Martin is such a special player that it may not have mattered either way. As the defense gets tired he's gonna find a way to score.

Do y'all have any idea what to expect from ES? I have no idea how good Statesville is, so it is tough to put that game into context.

I really don't know. They were pretty good in the scrimmage last year against Starmount but that's the only time I got to see them. This will be an unusual game since the head coaches of each school are brothers. I'm sure that each one will recognize some of the others play calling and thought process which may affect the game.

Just a FYI for you East Surry fans. Better not sit on the bottom row, you can't see the field. I was there for a youth game Saturday and they have a banner up along the the fence. Deana is this something that's staying or is there a resolution in the works?

It wasn't there but half the season last year. Wasn't there when yall played Mt Airy but was when you played EW. Either way just wondering if there was a resolution to this?

I'd be really mad if I came to watch a game and couldn't even see it cause of a banner.

Don't get me wrong, im all for supporting your school and showing pride but being considerate of visiting schools goes a long ways.

We are really on here talking about a fence on the visitor side that partially blocks the view from the bottom row.

I would bet that the administration doesn't give two craps what the visitors think about the view from the bottom row. Of all the things they have to worry about like grades, state guidelines, student discipline, crazy parents, drugs, hiring, firing, leaking roofs and a gazillion other things, bottom row view is probably not super high on the list.

Bring a booster seat or something.

Say what you want as those are all valid issues that needs addressed too. As far as partially blocking the view from the bottom row is completely inaccurate. Its blocking the complete view. But its called having a little consideration for your visiting team. I mean we all know those visitors get in free and doesn't contribute any kind of gate or concessions money at all.

Try the 2nd or 3rd row

Guys, im not here to start a pissing match. Just stating a concern from a fan view point. Clearly the higher up you go the better the view but not everyone is going to get that seating. Someone's going to have to be on the bottom rows.

Anyways, back to the game. How is East Surry this year compared to years past? Do we really expect a blowout?

I don't think it will be a big blowout. I looked up Statesville yesterday and they are top 20 in 6A, so I figure they would beat most teams around here pretty easily. Maybe a late score or defensive score by Starmount to make it seem worse than it really was.

East Surry line did have size and they were physical OL and DL, but they didn't have the speed or the athleticism to keep up with Statesville. Statesville is pick to finish 2nd or 3rd in a tough 6A/7A NPC Conference. I will say East Surry scheduled Statesville, Starmount, Murphy, and Walkertown to start the season. And plus Mount Airy and West Stokes.

No idea how good (or bad) Statesville is, but being top 20 isn't as meaningful as years past. There's only 57ish teams per classification.

Starmount didn't play that good but a win is a win. Missing a couple of key players. Offense needs to evolve with more passing. Rodriguez should be much more involved in the passing game. Way too many personal foul penalties that cost the team more points. Starmount should've scored more than what they did.
