Heard from a very very reliable source that posts on here that E.Bladen and Clinton could play in the west this year is this possible? There's a chance thomasville could play in the east this year also?

The projection I saw had Thomasville (14) playing at South Columbus (3). But it would actually be SC playing in the west, but hosting the first two games as a higher seed. Either way, it’s lunacy.

Last year Whiteville was in 2A west and had to travel all the way to Mountain Heritage...........and in a 3rd round game...South Columbus traveled to Reidsville....both of those are hauls, but Whiteville to Burnsville takes the cake.......................

I realize that there isn’t always geographic balance in the playoffs. But if Asheboro is the center of the state, there are some crazy projections and history. Maybe that pod thing wasn’t so bad after all.

I hear you both and don’t disagree. But I’m not so sure it’s worse than a team having to drive 200-300 miles to play with virtually no one in the visitors’ stands. I believe that the drive and the home field crowd become disproportionate factors in the outcome. I don’t have the answer.

There's no real good solution, with NC being a geographically big(long) state, there's always going to be traveling issues I guess....if the state was smaller like states in the northeast things would be easier to determine

In 2014 Mitchell and Swain co. Came to whiteville. Swain won there in 3 round. Brought alot of fans. 3 charter busses plus people that drove. Better programs travel very well.

I remember one year in 1A division Lakewood was in west and so was N. Dublin both team east of 95. Lakewood played S.Stanly at home and Robbinsville, then played at N. Dublin for the 1A western championship. That was interesting, two team east of 95 playing for the Western championship. But Hobbton, Lakewood, all those teams were in west. Hobbton went to Cherokee and Elkins about every year.

A lot of what everybody is saying is true, but some opinion comes from the fact that many people think that Raleigh is the center of the state, and any team west of Raleigh must be west, when that's just not true. And look at the shape of NC. A few teams on our southern coast are more western than we think. But when we think of coastal schools, we automatically think east. Whiteville is the same distance to Charlotte as it is to Reidsville and SW Edgecombe. They are closer to Reidsville than they are to eastern teams like Bertie, Hertford, and Elizabeth City. They are just in a really geographically weird corner of the state.

Actually, I was always taught that Asheboro is the true geographic center of North Carolina....about 75 miles west of Raleigh. Most people in the Piedmont think of Raleigh as eastern North Carolina.

yeah Raleigh is definitely Eastern NC to us folks in the triad....Actually the geographic center of the state I believe is in the Siler City area (western Chatham County)..................(at least that's what they taught us in school).............

Chapel Hill to Murphy and Chapel Hill to Madeo should be same distance? If what they say is true. Just seemed to Murphy would be farther.

That was in 2007, if I remember correctly. North Duplin won the "West" and then lost to Plymouth in the state championship.

In 2009, Princeton and Rosewood, both east of 95 and just a few miles apart from each other, both ended up in the West and losing at Mount Airy. In between, the Bears hosted West Columbus.

For what it’s worth. I used a website called laughing squid and it shows Bear Creek as the exact center in Chatham county. That’s a little east of Asheboro, right between Siler City & Carthage, going north to south.

Did it also show that Bear Creek has the only edible fruit cake in North Carolina?
