as they were storming the field after the ECU-WVU game. Looks like someone caught some of the beat down on video. (That's a cop throwing punches in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Tackling someone and punching them with a closed fist while three other officers are holding him down, is just pathetic. All that kid probably did was run onto the field and try and make it to the crowd. I would sue the **** out of the police force.

I'm glad the cops at the state games aren't that hard... sure, they'll threaten to do something before you jump but as soon as 5-10K students jump the fence they bail so fast...

Same game, different cop, different student.

Another cop charges and drills a student that is not over the fence (about the 34 second mark in the middle of the video). At the same time, yet another cop chases down the one guy that avoids him/her and arrests him while 1000s of others come onto the field. All of this happened even though the police chief gave instructions to let the students go if it looked like a lot of them were going to come onto the field.

just look on in bewilderment, because the odds of that happening are probably about the same odds of seeing Bigfoot.

Any fan who leaves the stands and rushes the field loses the right to complain about anything that happens to him.

Roughed up? Paralyzed? Killed? Tough ****. You brought it upon yourself.

then he got what he deserved. But I doubt that is what happened.

Regretably, it's a fact of life that if a student gets hurt on the field (accidently, not by police) they are going to sue the university. This happened a few years ago when a coed was hit by a toppled goalpost and knocked unconscious. So, the university is in a lose-lose situation.

I agree with this part...
Any fan who leaves the stands and rushes the field loses the right to complain about anything that happens to him.

Roughed up? ... You brought it upon yourself.
This might be a stretch, though...
Paralyzed? Killed? Tough ****.

But some of the quotes in the article are pretty stupid...
"It was the most repulsive thing I've ever seen," said New Bern resident Michael Jones. "Those kids weren't doing anything wrong."
You mean, like being on the field when they weren't supposed to be?

"It's really sad," said Rachelle Friedman, another ECU graduate who attended the game. "This was a huge win for ECU. No one was being dangerous. All (law enforcement) needed to do was organize it."

Simple as that. "Organize" thousands of fans rushing onto the field.

Dumb broad.

You are a 17'n idiot. I'm sure when you were a student at State you never got so excited that you thought about storming the field. I dont understand at all why the school cares about students storming the field. And it cant be about liability, because sicking a bunch of rent a cops on students isnt exactly risk free. This is just a case of a bunch of scum bag meatheads that want to get back at all of the people from their high school that were able to get into college. Since you want to make an outrageous statement. Here is my take: If a student is being pummeled by a cop then another student should have the right to use their cowbell as a deadly weapon. I cant believe how alumni get old so fast. This is just like the people that say that they cant believe college students would binge drink. WTF did you do while you were in college? I am a recent engineering grad so dont give me that "Some people went to school to learn" bs.

Take that **** and shove it up your ***. No cop ever EVER should use force like that unless he is being attacked. If he tripped on the fence and broke a leg? yea he had it coming. If he fell in the mob and got kicked by people going over? yea he had it coming. Getting the **** kicked out of him by a cop for being a typical excited college student? hell no.

Way to go along with the police state way of thinking. You remind me of a person riding with me in Booneville, MS one night when a cop pulled me over for swerving (never mind the **** was following me 6 feet off my rear bumper). The cop was thouroghly dissappointed to see I hadn't been drinking and proceeded to ask me where I had been. I told the cop politely that it was none of his business. You would thought I had just pulled a gun on him the way that passenger looked at me. He told me afterwards that I should have just told him because "he is a cop". I told him he was a pu*** that didn't know his rights and that badges don't give you authority OVER the law. (Stay your *** out of Booneville, MS BTW. It has been proven they have a quota and are forced to fulfill it)

It really pisses me off when I hear "well he had it coming" when a damn 17 or 18 year old is just being excited at a football game and a grown *** man with a power trip acts like the student is trying to kill somebody. That cop deserves to be fired on the spot for overstepping his bounds and DISOBEYING what his superiors told him to do in the first place.

do we have that rule anyway?

1. Fans have been storming the field after big wins for, like, 100 years. Ok, maybe 80. Why all the oppressive rules all the sudden?
2. They can't enforce the rule. They can keep that one kid, the one they are beating the **** out of, from coming over the fence. But, you can't do anything about the 5,000 coming over the fence.

I know, it is to protect people from getting hurt. Whatever happened to "You did something risky and you got hurt. Tough ****." These damn rules to protect people from themselves are getting retarded, not that the first such rule of that nature wouldn't have been retarded.

while watching from their seats. I see it this way. Just charging the field without <17ing> with the cops, players, officials.... then there is no problem and you may get a night in the pokey if they single you out and chase you down. But, by charging the field, you made a choice to put yourself at risk for being trampled by the crowd, beaten by a piece of **** that hides behind a badge and numerous other bad stuff. Even if the cop over-reacted, which looks to be the case, some blame has to go toward the person that chose to ignore the policy of not going onto the playing surface.

How many ECU fans that stayed in the stands got their asses kicked by cops? That's the point. Players belong on the field. Fans belong in the stands.

It's not just fans putting themselves at risk. A promising high school basketball star saw his future come crashing down when he was paralyzed by fans rushing the court. He had a volleyball scholarship to Stanford. A Georgia fan threw a punch at Matt Walsh once. Fans have no right to put athletes at risk.

And no, I've never rushed the court or field. I've been at six games where that was done, and I kept my *** where it belonged all six times.

When I was a student at NC State, ECU fans were the worst. They were like Southern Miss fans on steroids. NC State's stadium had a sloped grassy area in the endzone and lots of students sat there. There would be 40-50 fights going on in that area by the end of the games. NC State finally quit playing them. Don't know that the ECU student needed to get pounded by the cops; but he might of needed based on past experience.

Speaking of fans throwing the first punch, I'll never forget this. About 20 years ago, ecu hosted southern miss on tv. Southern was down by 1 or 2 with time for 1 play around their own 20. The drama-queen qb for southern miss threw a hail mary at the end of the game and completed it. At that point the usm receiver did a forward lateral and usm scored. at the time the penalty was from the spot of the foul. ecu had to take the penalty because it was a touchdown. Southern kicked the FG to win the game. Some pirate fan jumped from the stadium on top of one of the officials. Another ref then grabbed the fan and started pounding him. To bad you tube wasn't around then.........
