There is no question that UK recruiting has taken a big jump since Stoops (and Marrow) arrived, and half of the TEN four stars in the 14 class were from Ohio-----plus a total of eleven commits overall. In the 15 class the ratings fell off, but the talent didn't overall, in fact Freddie rated it better than the 14 class, and two of the best prospects in the class are AA and Conrad, both started as true freshmen and should get much better, probably neither are speed burners but not everyone can be, both great talents. In 16 we are back to eleven commits in the class from Ohio, (not done yet) plus two JCs originally from there. and while Stoops is locking up our state AND this year saw a great jump in in state talent Ohio is still furnishing the bulk of our talent. It is MUCH easier to attract talent from Kentucky AND Ohio than to try to get top talent from other SEC states, in fact until very recently NONE of the MANY recruits we got from the SEC states had an offer from Home State U, and NONE of them were four stars, Boom the first one of those.
I know Edwards is only listed as having 4.6 speed but he started a lot AND from the way he closed ground on a couple of RBs in games I think he could be the fastest player on the team, maybe not accurate, and maybe Snodgrass's 4.4 time isn't accurate either.
Transfer U had OVER half of the great 11 class from Florida, including all five of the four stars from Miami------but that was hurtt's class, and everyone should be able to figure out how he got those players away from the tradition and beaches of Miami. Of the 21 commits in their 16 class so far they have ONE 5.5 commit from Florida, and one 5.7 commit from Ohio.
You have to take talent where you can get it, and so far we aren't getting many of the top players away from the SEC states, and there are lots of reasons for that, proximity being one of the big ones.
It would be a great thing if our new coaching additions make a big change there, but we probably have to start winning more SEC games before that happens.
