Bingo. There was this guy I knew at State whose dad was a line judge. Officiated 2 or 3 games that I know of, and I'm pretty sure he went to a different SEC school himself. How do they let that happen? Of all the millions the SEC makes every year, divvy up $2 million between all the refs to make that their ONLY job, and make sure none of them have any direct connections to any of the 14 schools. How hard is that?
ETA: In one game I remember (because I was sitting near him at the game) he completely blew a call in our favor. Everyone who knew this kid's dad was the ref was about to beat the crap out of him in the stands. I don't know if he was trying to compensate for his bias or actually is just a terrible ref, but knowing he had connections to State only made it worse for me. No one wins.
