#’s aren’t great, but overall ok. Still think he should have stuck around another year for a huge pay day, but that likely would have been some place else, and maybe didn’t want to have to deal with a move for 1 year.

There’s never a huge payday for RBs anymore, at any level, unless they are great at everything.

all the more reason for him to stick around one more year in college, would have made some bank.

Love ran a 4.36 i think ... stud.
Program is stinking like rotten fish, he ran well and we got blown out 3 straight games to end the season. I don't think any rb wants to risk injury and the end of their career to win 5 games at a place like Nebraska. Just even playing on special teams and getting some time in a pre-season game is worth it for the memories. Of course, he has a small chance of making some millions in the nfl as well.

I think EJ ran a 4.56 at the combine... dang, he lost a lot of money right there. Some were talking potential top 2 rounds going in I believe.

Any rookie RB contract is going to be multi year. So even if some college team was going to pay him $1M or $1.5M....that is for 1 year.

His NFL contract for a RB in the mid rounds is going to be $4-5M for 4-5 years, all guaranteed.

He would have been stupid not to go.

On top of that, he was almost guaranteed not to lead a league in rushing yards again, TDs, etc. What was the statistical upside to coming back?

Exactly...get that guaranteed money when you can and then hope you get a second contract.

Way better than one more year in college.

You overestimate rookie deals, the CBA has the salary by pick position, only the top 15 picks are slotted over 4 million in their first year. If Emmett is a 4th round pick his salary would look like this.

Pick 117 Total $5,348,797
$1,160,949 Y1
$1,280,949 Y2
$1,395,949 Y3
$1,510,949 Y4

And only first round picks have fully guaranteed contracts, the rest of the rounds have partial guarantees.

OK so Jaylen Wright was a 4th round pick. He signs a 4 year deal worth just shy of $5M. Plus a $750k signing bonus.

So I was taking an AI summary and generalizing, but you are right. Limited guarantees in the 4th and 5th round.

Using a real life example. Wright would make approx. $1.5M in year 1 in the NFL. Half guaranteed. Still does get the benefit of a 4 year contract.

The highest valued RB in the NCAA next year is Ahmad Hardy and 247 has him at $1.1M. EJ was not going to be paid that. Even Justice Hayes and Mark Fletcher are in the $700-$800k range.

So he isnt going to light up the measurements and testing(so no draft upside there to staying). He isnt going to beat last years production without injury. And he can go pro and get a signing bonus guaranteed, that is essentially equivalent to what a guy like Justice Haynes is making, plus base salary, plus a 4 year contract.

Why in the hell would he stay in college?

Lemme say this in a way that today's youth can understand:

Bro legit shoulda stayed makin' more scratch at NU than a rookie setup. Trust.
I think he needed to be "recruited" to stay at NU and just wasn't. Just another failing of the staff. But maybe he'll be able to get an injunction to come to NU if he gets drafted in a late round.

The money is in the second contract. After 4 years he’ll be 26/27 and get his bag. Maybe year 3 if he’s starting by then.

I’m going to be surprised if it’s even that high. I would LOVE to see him drafted early but I’m skeptical. RBs are a dime a dozen.

Yeah, I'm not sure of the RB stock in this draft, but the numbers EJ put up in the draft may be 5th round at best.

Only 10 guys ran. All of the slow guys didn't run. I think EJ was the only back who did all of the events. He's still in the running to go on Day 2. A 4.5 time in the 40 isn't really slow. People were making a big deal a couple others (not named Love) running sub 4.4, but both those guys had injury and fumbling issues.

RBs don't stay for an extra year of college unless making an NFL roster is in serious doubt.

Only QBs and maybe offensive linemen truly benefit from getting a 4th/5th/6th year of starts.
Exactly. So people on here talking about him missing a big pay day are dumb....

In the ABSOLUTE BEST outcome, he ends up at like Ohio State and MATCHES his pay for his probable NFL contract. FOR 1 YEAR....and if we are being honest thats not even realistic.

More than likely he takes a pay cut to stay in college. Put more wear and tear on his body. Have less production. Then roll into the combine next year and measure and test completely mediocre again....
