Logged in to NCEES to register and they make you choose right then and there, permanently, on which afternoon test to take. Uhhh...didn't want to make that decision yet. Well, I have until Sept 3rd to decide.

My gut feeling is to take the Elecrical. I've been studying general FE material...and yeah, my gut feeling is sounding even better. I've been through all the math and statics stuff. Problems aren't real hard, just damn hard to finish in the allotted time.

The pass rates for the general afternoon exam aren't real good, especially for EE's: http://www.ncees.org/Exams/FE_exam.php

So I've about talked myself into doing the Electrical after hearing some buzz elsewhere that General is the thing to do.

Has anybody here done both? Or felt that one or the other was hard or not-so-hard?

when I took the FE (2007), there were 3 EEs that took it. I think all three of us did the Electrical part in the afternoon. I'm not sure if the other 2 passed (I did), but we were the first 3 to finish. It was pretty straight forward, the biggest problem I had was signals and systems. I could not remember anything about it. There were several signals questions, characteristic equations, etc. The whole test isn't too bad, just long.

...because I thought I'd be more likely to be able to correctly answer a question pertaining to an electrical area that I wasn't directly familiar with than I would be likely to answer a question correctly pertaining to fluid mechanics or dynamics or thermo or anything else that I hadn't spent 3 1/2 years studying.

And I passed on the first try, so there's that too.
