Didnt see this one coming...especially after elkin just lost to starmount. I thought wilkes central was the cream of the crop in this conference. What happened? injuries? or just an upset.

Had a guy come in the store yesterday that predicted this one

Looks like Ashe may be the cream of the crop..but who knows...I like the conference parity this year.

Statement win by the Bucking Elks....Should be an interesting matchup between East Wilkes and Elkin this year with a possible high 1A or 1AA playoff seed on the line...

Def should be. Elkin for whatever reason always gives EW fits. Honestly, unless EW is HEAD AND SHOULDERS better than Elkin (2015, 2016) seasons..then they always make EW fans nervous. No one I mean no one saw Elkin beating WC..until maybe next year..but this conference is as even as it's ever been. I'm not saying that it's a good thing. Historically this conference hasn't faired well in the conference, with the exception of the 2000's Elkin teams and the 90's-early 2000's Starmount teams.

Elkin wasn't a part of this conference in the early 2000s. Just remember they had to go through pretty good squads of Mount Airy, East Surry, Starmount, and Surry Central every year. Until Starmount and Surry Central went 2A and joined the then all 2A MVAC in 2005 and were replaced by West and Bishop. The current conference as it stands now ztarted in 2009 but also included Forbush. This seems to be a very level year in the conference but I think 2015 was the best year when you had a 3 way tie for 2nd and conference champion East Wilkes beat the 3 teams behind them only by a combined 13 points. With all 3 of those games being absolute thrillers.

Maybe i should have said teams in the area. I dont remember a time when the Elks and Ew were not in the same conference.

I agree that Ashe may be the team to beat. This conference is as balanced as I have ever seen. West seems to be the worst team, but on any given night any of the other teams can jump up and beat you.

East is really hurting in the trenches. East was not deep to begin with, but each week it seems another player goes down. Still have Alleghany, Elkin, Ashe and WC. It would not be a stretch to see East lose out.

I think it would be a stretch to lose all of them. Not sure who is out since this past Fri.night, but EW can compete with any of those teams if they get that defense a little more gristled.

EW had a back with over 200 yds rushing and a td plus another back with over 100 yds and 3tds...and the qb had 150yds plus passing...EW seems to have a problem with bruising style backs..but they have found a way to win..im not counting them out anymore...i fully expect us to beat at least two out of the four teams left, starting this Fri.night against Alleghany.

DaBluePrint1, I hope/expect a win Friday night. I do think our remaining games will be shoot outs. Thankfully we have the skilled athletes to compete. The 3rd quarter touchdown run by Ross was amazing. His vision on that run was the best I have seen in a while.
