I was just told that this entire process was a scam. They just wanted to appease the community by making it seem like they tried. I feel bad for the community. They are destined to continue to fail.

Honestly I'm not sure who would want to work for that system currently with that current school board. Obviously North Lincoln is a step up but one has to wonder if Baker realized the chaos that was at the top and realized he wasn't going to get the support that he needed. That system just doesn't seem to be what it once was.

If what I was told Friday afternoon is true we should know today or tomar officially.
They've started telling people. They went with a guy on the current staff. School board meeting tonight to officially vote on it. The town is extremely unhappy I wouldn’t be shocked to see certain people at the board meeting to voice their displeasure. It’ll be another 3-5 years of wasted time. They don’t plan on changing anything.

Obviously idk because I’m not directly tied to the community. From what my friends who lives there is saying they are expecting a lot of their kids to depart for Booneville and Ronda. I can’t blame those parents for moving their kids if that’s what they do.

Oh back to the old days, Elkin players going to Starmount, Deana will get mad at me, but let Starmount fall on hard times, Starmount players will be going to Elkin. Been going on for 40 years.

Elkin is 11-43 the last 5 seasons. Had some above .500 seasons prior to that in the 2010s (but mainly 2-4 wins seasons)...Rycroft is a great guy who has been on the staff for a long time. Surprised they went in this direction. Good luck to him and Elkin. Area football is better when Elkin is good.

The only reason Elkin has ever been relevant is because of Starmount and EW players. I bet you can guess which side of the river Coach Rycroft himself lived on. Really nice guy btw. It doesn't matter who the coach at Elkin is unless he can recruit the other side of the bridge.

Very true. However good luck getting kids away from SM & EW currently with what they have established.

Very true… they’re not gonna win the recruiting battle currently. Starmount and EW both have better HCs and Coaching staffs along with better facilities and a much better record over the last decade. 26 years ago if you told me we’d be at the point where EW and Starmount where the class of the area I’d have said you was crazy. Here we are though

Even before this I have been hearing that some kids are planning to transfer over to Starmount to have a chance for a championship run. I wouldn't blame them one bit for doing it. Lot of talent in such a small radius with East Wilkes and Mt Airy all nearby.

Yeah parents haven't exactly let it be a hush hush thing from my understanding as far as their kids moving to another school

Folks are getting soft. Everything people have complained about for decades they're turning the cheek to now. What happened go grit it out and when the going gets tough the tough get going? What message are we sending kids when we just up and let them move because we don't like a decision? But sure keep complaining about kids when the adults complaining are the enablers. I guess we can partially blame travel ball and daddy ball culture for the state of things.

I don't think this was the best move but if any of us would have been on this staff for the time Rycroft has, we'd all expect and welcome the opportunity.

I hope it works out for him and the community will get over themselves and rally around their school and community.
