first time did the hamstring tendon, second time the patellar (quad) tendon. the good knews for you is that the rehab after the hammy was much easier to handle than the second. supposedly, that's why they are going away from patellar tendons - easier/quicker rehab. enjoy the vicodins while you have them.
doctors differ on whether to use allografts (cadavers) for ACLs. obviously, the rehab wouldn't be as bad because you're not going to have to rehab the place where the replacement tendon is taken from, like you said. on my second surgery, one doctor first suggested an allograft, but i didn't really like the way he handled patients (he was pushy with the allograft), and a second doctor told me "if it was my knee, i wouldn't use an allograft". come to find out, the first doctor soon thereafter published some findings about allografts in ACLs.
carson palmer's ACL was an allograft. i've heard of other people getting allografts and they were fine. if my living was centered around my athletic ability, though, i may go the route with the best chance to quickly get back to where i was. i wonder what willis mcgahee had done to his knee...
