He had an outstanding defense for 10 games, then sucked for 3 and gets demoted. Typical Spurrier. Either produce or I'll try to find someone else who will.

the announcers were discussing their talks with Johnson and said how Johnson wasn't that displeased with how his D played in the games where everyone thought they did poorly. He felt the offense put them in bad positions.

Hogwash Our defense made some plays and made EJ look good. Giving him credit for AJ's pick six against Bama or Pegues's against Auburn is as stupid as calling Crooms out for bemoaning our lack of pick sixes this year. I'll say it aGAIN. Defensive coordinators like Ellis Johnson are a dime a dozen. Torbush is in the same category.

I don't know why they went through all this trouble with titles but I don't think Johnson got Hevesy'ed.

Spurrier's time is done...He just isnt getting the job done on offense. He has made SC consistently better, which has been a tough thing to do at that school. But hasnt been able to elevate them to the level he and his ego was supposed to. After their bowl game this next year, he needs to step aside and let someone else have it

I agree. I imagine he's having a tough time recruiting as most players are probably wondering how much longer he will be around. He just doesn't generate the excitement he did in the 90's.

Let's compare Holtz vs Spurrier at USC:

Spurrier:
7-5
8-5
6-6
7-6
Total: 28-22

Holtz:
0-11
8-4
9-3
5-7
5-7
6-5
Total: 33-37

Take out the anomaly of the 0-11 year and Holtz was 33-26. So really, Spurrier hasn't done anything by looking at the records.

I don't really have an explanation, but they've hired two supposedly pretty darn good coaches. Neither could do anything. Maybe the common thread is not that they were old, it's South Carolina.

Holthz had 3 winning seasons in 6 years...Spurrier hasnt had a losing season...I'd say thats more consistent..SC's history is about like ours as far as football goes...its only been recently where they have been bowl regulars

isn't that much different than a 6-6.

Look at the product on the field. Its really not any different.

Maybe S. Carolina has gone out and hired coaches that were past their prime. Maybe it is a combination of the school along with coaches who have lost a step or lost their edge. South Carolina has the money, the facilities, location in a talent rich state and bordered by talent rich states (NC, GA, close to Fla & VA). I think they have just had bad luck in hiring big name coaches that were great on paper, but who had lost something that gave them their edge by the time they got to SC.

more or less balance out the 2 5-7 seasons. Funny how your standards change. You're all over Stansbury for not coming through with the big NCAA tournament run, even though he produces consistently good teams, yet you're defending Spurrer for being consistent but not coming through with the occasional big season.

basketball has to be compared to baseball if you are going to make comparisions...

Football doesnt do home and home...
Football only has 1/3 of the teams basketball has
You can revamp your basketball team in one year-football takes 2-3 years
2 football loses eliminate you from a NC, you can finish in 5-6th place in conference and still have a shot at the NC in basketball

Now then, if you will read my first post, I said its about time for Spurrier to step aside because he has taken SC about as high as he can. If you want me to go there with Stansbury, i'll be happy to- because everybody knows he has taken our program as far as he can.

...as frustrating as it is to be a State fan, it's got to be frustrating to be a Gamecock fan. You get these big name coaches that both underachieve.

having pretty bad offenses. This move makes no sense. Its time for Spurrier to leave. They need a young driven coach who will recruit his butt off. They have a big stadium that sells out for every game and great fan support. Someone can win there.

Spurrier did the same thing at UF.....Zook was his DC, they had a "bad" year, and Zook got demoted to DB coach.

unless one of the big 3 in the East goes on MAJOR probation. TN has been medicore/horrible but they'll see Atlanta again WAY before South Carolina, Kentucky, or Vandy will.

(even though Mississippi has never been to Atlanta they did win a share of the 03 Western Division title and don't even start with any tiebreaker ******** because the SEC does NOT use tiebreakers to determine division titles, they recognize both teams as champions). But no Eastern division team other than UF, UGA or UT has ever even tied for a division title.

you shouldn't compare baseball to basketball because in baseball you play series. If we play LSU and win two out of three, I would be happy, and that would equate to a "win" in football or basketball, and even then it's apples and oranges. Plus, in basketball you have to play every team in your division home/home. You don't do that in any other sport.

basketball and baseball teams dont have to win their conferences to have a great season. The regular season is simply to seed the top 64 to compete for the championship in both of those sports

with Slive - he is changing the rule.

He also said 7-5, 6-4. No idea what that meant.

And I have no idea what 7-5, 6-4 might mean either. Although I must confess that I do know what 7-6, 6-4 might refer to. There will be payback though. Oh yes, there will be payback.

Or, OK, chalk Alabama up to luck, he's at least why we won 7 games. If you try to say he wasn't, then you have to be saying that Croom was.

of course, he was usually referring to his tendency to pull a QB early on if things didn't go just right. As a matter of fact, we beat UF once or twice because of that when the Jackel was the coarch...hell, I don't know how many times we played them or how many times we won under the Jackel. At any rate, Spurrier is not a patient man.

No demotion at SC. You know how Mississippi has the archaic law that says no state employee can have a contract over four years? There are laws like that in South Carolina that limits how long of a contract can run for certain employees.

How come you didn't have that attitude when we went to a bowl game in 2007, despite not being all that good?
