Read this from a South Carolina fan. Not exactly the home run choice we've been wanting, but we can and have done worse. Notwithstanding yesterday's beatdown at Clemson, he's been a good DC whereever he's gone (we all claim the 8-5 season last year was Johnson's work not Croom's).

One nice thing about hiring Defensive coordinators as Head Coaches-Defense is their baby, and they'll hire some hungry young gun to run the offense and leave well enough alone (see Bob Stoops).

USC defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson is a candidate for the head coaching job at Mississippi State and will pursue the position according to a source. Johnson spent four season as the Bulldogs' defensive coordinator. He just completed his first regular season as USC's defensive coordinator. Mississippi State head coach Sylvester Croome announced his resignation Saturday.

Also, the Charleston and Courier reported USC recruiting coordinator David Reaves is expected to join Lane Kiffin's news staff at Tennessee. Reaves is Kiffin's brother-in-law.

but I'm sure he will be way down Greg's list. We all have high profile choices, but they may turn us down. Someone like Ellis or the LA Tech guy may come into the picture by default.

he left because his wife hated Starkville and wanted to be closer to home, except Little Rock wasnt closer to home. There wasnt any rift in the staff at all just because Crooms couldnt score 14 points in a 17'ing game. No, his wife hates Starkville and thats why they left. So she wont let him apply for the job

$2 million a year can buy you a nice home in a gated community, and you can always hire someone to shop for you.

Regardless of his reasons, he left us for the first team to come calling.
On the other hand, I think it's fair to say we're 6-6 this season if he stays. He would not be a bad decision at all, in my opinion. Obviously he's not Chris Petersen or some other big name, but I'd rather have him than Dooley.
