This one was sent on 4/26/2003. A few weeks after we started sixpack.

The following are allegations I've learned of, and I have no idea whether or not they might apply to any of the people associated with the board. They may be bogus, or there may be something to it. Still, it's best that you know that such allegations are being made:

1) an allegation that someone working at MSU is about to be fired or put on probation

2) another is about to be dis-associated by the athletic department

3) another may be denied admission to MSU when he finishes JUCO

4) other identities have yet to be determined, but are being worked on

Supposedly, this all stems from allegations that suggest that things such as lies, death threats, and illegal medical information on a student-athlete have been posted at one time or another on the six-pack board. Once again, I have no idea if any of this is true, but you should be advised that there are people who believe it is.

Take it for what it's worth.

He says that death threats were posted against Gene, that slanderous comments were made about Sherrill, and that illegal health care info was posted about Kevin Fant. He even went as far as to say that jail time was a possibility.

Now I don't know where he's getting this stuff from , but I haven't read the 6-pack board enough to know whether or not any of this stuff is true or whether or not any of it has been done through private e-mails, etc. All I can do is ask you to do is to be honest with me. Has anyone, to your knowledge, done any of the above things I mentioned? These are pretty disturbing accusations. I'm not saying I believe them, but it's definitely disturbing when someone suggests such a thing.

If you want, you should let the rest of the 6-pack know these allegations are being made. Whether they're true or not, you all seem to be treading in dangerous waters.

My conservative estimate is that SPS cost Gene a million dollars over the years.

Back then, there were two ways to print money in the internet message board business. Be really good or be really bad. I was in college during the late 90s run - everyone was on GenesPage and most people were paying $99/year for premium access. Follow that up with the 2001-03 debacle and he had thousands of paying members with very little overhead.

Remember, he was an accountant for the railroad company and he quit his job because he was making so much money with GenesPage. Andy K had a small group over from the old IBBC, but the first real push against Gene was the Six Pack. I remember going to 50 members really quick, then it took off. You had people posting premium information from Gene's Page that was causing people to not renew.

All those threats were empty and there to protect Gene's income. You know how crazy those people were? At the 2002 Egg Bowl, just months before the creation of this board, I was sitting with my future wife at Vaught Hemingway Stadium, completely frustrated as we were ending a 3-9 season. I said to my neighbor, hopefully we are done with this **** Monday morning and we fire Sherrill.

Someone heard me. Found out who we were, and called both mine and my wife's employer on Monday (both student workers) and demanded we be fired. It didn't happen, but it showed me how crazy some people are.

And the funny thing is there would never be a Six Pack board if Gene had simply run his board like dawgstudent runs this one.

Yep. He had no serious competition. Andy K was pitching an MLM company to everyone and BulldawgJunction.com was awful disaster. He had just secured David Murray and a bunch of people moved their Dawg's Bite newspaper subscription to Gene.

It was a total unforced error on his part.

Funny thing about this is none of it was true.

1. No one worked for MSU
2. No one was ever dis-associated
3. Everyone was out of college so no one was in JUCO
4. No idea where that went

This was just because we started a message board out of necessity.

Glad you saved that email. Pretty hilarious how seriously some of those guys were taking themselves.

I'm glad to see "treading in dangerous waters" is still a core part of SPS.

I’m cracking up at the death threat. One, did that happen? Two, was there a method described? Three, if it did happen, what was the catalyst?
