If you get a job done and try to pay and they tell you "don't worry about it", what would you do?

Even if Meredith HAD paid, which he didn't, he knew that they had no business landscaping his yard in the first place.

I think if I had a $300,000 job on the line, and really wanted to pay, I would figure out a way to get it done. Hell, send Vance or MSU a cashiers check. The bottom line is he received a free service paid for my taxpayer dollars. Meredith's attempt to throw Watson under the bus after the fact is a bit too late.

I don't think anyone drove from Starkville to do the job. Maybe he thought the rules were different for the Extension Service.

Just a thought. That's one part of the deal that I know very little about.

You shouldn't have used taxpayer resources to landscape your damn yard to begin with. The crew didn't just show up one day and do the stuff with watson waiting for him to get home to say "SURPRISE!". Tried to pay or not... He just as caught up on this as watson is. He's tried to pay to cover his crooked ***. You mean to tell me there is no one in Jackson that he could have called to landscape his yard?

to landscape his yard. It's still illegal and Meredith knew it. And as another poster pointed out, he certainly didn't try very hard to pay for the service, not that it would have left him completely in the clear even if he had.

I heard Stacy Pickering on the radio the other day say that offering to pay was a non-factor and wouldn't be taken into account.

It's no excuse but there are not many landscaping operations that have the equipment to plant these type trees.

Meridith? Is that you? You mean to tell me there is no one in the Jackson Metro area or surrounding area that can plant Magnolia trees and Mississippi State Landscaping is the only one that can? That's ********.

That's why most people don't plant mature trees. Only rich mf'ers like Meredith and Porkchop can afford to have mature trees planted in their yard. The rest of us have to plant saplings and wait a few years for them to grow into maturity. But that's how people like Meredith roll. And it helps rich mf'ers to stay rich when they don't even have to pay for the excesses they enjoy.

20' trees, 10' in diameter? Damn right I'm saying there are few, very few landscaping companies that can do that.

25' trees in my back yard. I used a flatbed trailer to haul them to my house and my cousin and I used his auger to dig the holes and another attachment to carry the trees from the trailor to the holes. Believe me there are several companies that could have done this. Don't let homerism overtake common sense. I'm sure this type of thing happens more often than most realize. However these two guys got caught. They both need to go.

Well, you can get to NYC by mule and wagon too, but most people choose a different method.

Normally a truck with up to a 92 inch tree spade attached is used for these type jobs.

Again, that's not something the normal landscaping company has, because there is little demand for these type services.

No homerism from me. If they're both guilty, they should both go down. Either way, it was pure politics and it'll be interesting to
see if the instigator gets taken down too.

located in the metro Jackson area, & since I just replaced some old oaks that I had taken down w/ some new 20' oaks, I to was intrigued by how they would plant these trees that I was told weighed in at 1100lbs.

Simple, they used a mini excavator to dig the hole, a skidsteer to move the tree from a trailer to the hole, & 5 men w/ shovels to fill in & finish planting. All installed in a day, they came back & staked them the next day.

There are plenty of companies in the metro Jackson area that could have been contacted to do this. These guys made it look easy b/c they do it everyday, I don't believe that this is something an extension service does everyday.

Meredith has been proven to have received free landscaping from MSU. How could he possibly not be guilty?

says that to you, you start out by being smart enough to know that can be a lot of trouble just to let it go. I think Meredith is at least that smart.

What you do is you go over Watson's head and tell the President that you need an invoice. Or you send a check for your estimate of what the work costs along with a note that says you need a bill for the rest.

The bottom line is that you have to be smart enough and honest enough not to get caught up in crap like that. And his has shouldn't be saved by some half *** memo that is the equvilent of someone saying at dinnner "Hey, let me pick up the tab." and when the other person says "no, my treat," the first person just says "OK." I mean, it is a half *** attempt to "look" like he wanted to pay.

i called my friend that did these trees for me, & asked him specs on a 20' magnolia, he replied as follows

approx. a 60" diam rootball w/ a weight of 1100-1500lbs. depending on moisture in the ball

Remember y'all are lawyers, & we are farmers, you are arguing about something you know nothing about.

managed to plant mature live oak trees all over the entrance to the Beau Rivage, and I will give you really good odds that MSU didn't do the work. Maybe all the big tree contractors in the MS area are located in Biloxi or something.

Meredith gets spared by a couple of half hearted emails? ********. The son of a ***** stole. I'm not happy about Watson's involvement. But, at least Watson was the one without the power between the two of them. Both of them should go.

Never once did I say they used a 92" tree spade. I said 'up to'. You can get them any size, normally from 20" to 92". I will agree a 60" was 'probably' used due to the type tree, but I can't say for sure because I wasn't there. However, unlike your friend, I'm basing my info on those that were involved in this particular project.

As for your last sentence, if you knew the truth, you would probably realize just how foolish that statement made you look.

It means I've never talked about being a lawyer and there is a good chance I might know something about this discussion.

when Queen Mary decreed that the Wal-Mart shouldn't be visible from 463 and the Interstate, and they brought in 65,000 evergreens to "screen" it. Don't know why Master Tom couldn't have done the same, or else bought a damn wooden fence instead of trees.

should be all the evidence anyone needs that the sumbitch is guilty as hell.

He felt the need to issue a f'n press release telling everyone he was found "not guilty?" Seriously?

MFer is nothing but a lowdown piece of ****.

I am claiming is that people plant 20'+ tall trees everyday, some more than others, hell I planted 4 oaks that came in 20'+ w/ the widest points of the canopy reaching a diam. measurement of 9'. All I was saying is I think you are pretty gullable if you think an arm of the extension service is the only outfit in Mississippi that can plant a tree such as this

My apologies if I assisted in your panties getting in a wad, being that you claim to know the truth & all, sport.
