NCAA makes most of its millions off NCAA basketball. As football continues to become a college/pro chimeric league it should just wean off the NCAA and make another regulatory body. NCAA is vestigial and atavistic

"The NCAA's deal with CBS and Warner Bros. Discovery for rights to the men's Division I basketball tournament accounts for about $900 million annually. That means the men's tournament brought in about 69% of the NCAA's revenue."

One thing I would like to see with this future arrangement is four year contracts between the student-athlete and the University. It would have a no-compete clause where you have to wait 12 months after you leave before you can sign on with a competing University. After the 4th year, anyone with eligibility left would be free to go as a grad transfer with no wait.

In other words, the way it was before they got rid of the rule that undergrad transfers have to sit out for a year.

Agree with this but googling vestigial and atavistic.

Be careful what you wish for. Left to their own devices the conferences can be guaranteed to be short-sighted and driven by greed.

They fit right lol?

atavistic

happening because of a very old habit from a long time ago in human history, not because of a conscious decision or because it is necessary now:

vestigial

used to describe something, especially a part of the body, that has not developed completely, or has stopped being used and has almost disappeared:

You underestimate the following of those sports, particularly among the university communities.
Never said they didn’t have followings. But the data shows football and men’s basketball are what most people watch

if a student on academic scholarship can transfer not sure why an Athlete cant transfer.. big difference between NIL deals and under the table payments vs letting a student transfer to any school..

• Florida State has an invitation waiting for them to join the Big Ten. They just need to get the legal stuff with leaving the ACC figured out.

Plain and simple - a great move by Rutgers getting into the Big Ten a few years back. Dozens of schools wish they were in your place right now

I’ve thought 16 teams would happen eventually in the future but it’s already being brought up before 12 teams come into fruition lol. The P2 confs have gotten bigger so probably want to make sure they can secure plenty of spots.

Maybe they can better preserve real women’s sports. To pre-empt any pushback—you can’t change DNA.

1-2 years FSU will be out of the ACC
This tweet contradicts itself a bit. FSU is a big market? If they don't care about AAU why not go for a Phoenix market team if they care only about big markets? Some of it is correct but the source isn't breaking any news here.

Definitely not a big market per se, but provide big market share is what I assume they meant (whereas Miami is a big market)
