I like the idea of it being a little bit of a rotation.

I didnt mind the Black Friday game as an Iowa fan, but kind of nice to switch it up some.

The crossover games seem so random. How does the b1G go about selecting these, doesn't seem to be any sort of rotation. TV ratings?

He are the 2020 and 2021 schedules

2020 - we get OSU and PSU
2021 - we get OSU and Michigan

I suspect when we lobbied to gain acceptance into the BIG it was on the basis of being a big boy football program which would add value to the conference. It looks like they are holding us to that claim with the cross divisional scheduling.

So we will play Ohio State six straight years? Can someone explain that to me?
I don't mind playing whoever from the other division I just don't think the cross division games should have any determination on you winning your division. In theory you could go undefeated in division play and still not win your division, which makes absolutely no sense.

Wonder if MN-Nebraska will be on Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving?

I'm wondering if the prime networks weren't interested in a national game day after Thanksgiving with Nebraska and Iowa. At this point it has to have extremely limited national appeal

I could see TV having a say in it. Iowa vs Nebraska isn't a big deal to anyone. But neither is Iowa vs Wisconsin or Nebraska vs Minnesota. I could see the switching of the day to Saturday, but the opponent, that seems like doing something just to do it.

That 2021 schedule is for real. Need to show that to recruits and ask what they envision their senior years looking like...

Seems they are trying to set one annual team most years? For us OSU, PSU for Iowa, but no continuity whatsoever...

Nebraska will have played the east top 4 25 times to Iowas 20.

As of 2021. How many times we play cross division opponents:

Indiana-2

Maryland-2

Rutgers-4

PSU-5

Michigan-5

MSU-7

OSU-8

Iowa cross division as of 2021:

Rutgers-2

OSU-3

MSU-4

Maryland-4

Indiana-6

Michigan-6

PSU-7

Probably because they think that broken chair trophy is still a thing.

Nonconference games:
Northern Illinois
Buffalo
@ Oklahoma

Crossover games against MSU, OSU, and Michigan.

4 years away, but you would assume those teams would still be better than average to great teams. That's a tough schedule.

Coaches better kick it up in recruiting and coaching if they want to compete. I would hate to see multiple blowouts a year...

Going to miss Neb on b.friday. I thought that had potential to be a long rivalry.

.000

Apparently I have hit my post limit on responses but to follow up with the guy below me I think the players were the last piece to come along also. I think the fans had STARTED to embrace it and the coaches had started to circle it as well.

This Hawkeye fan is going to miss the annual Black Friday game against Nebraska. Loved it.

I firmly believe they are prepping for Oklahoma to be entering the BIG West in 2022. That's the reason for the change. Just transitioning off the Iowa/Nebraska thing slowly rather than making an abrupt change so no fan base is "offended". Iowa fans wouldn't be offended by getting dumped for Oklahoma. We all know the history between NU and OU. Matching up Iowa and Wisconsin is fine by us too.

Nebraska and Minnesota can still play on Friday if both schools agree to it (and I'm sure the TV networks will encourage it, they need the programming).

When schedules first came out in 2010, Nebraska and Iowa were set to play on Saturdays too, then that changed quickly.

Moving Minnesota to the season ender sets up a Battle of the Bygones. Minnesota has 7 national championships and Nebraska has 5, but neither has come close to contending in decades.

These Big Ten cross-division matchups will happen every year over a six-year period (2016 through 2021)

Illinois vs. Rutgers
Iowa vs. Penn State
Minnesota vs. Maryland
Nebraska vs. Ohio State
Northwestern vs. Michigan State
Purdue vs. Indiana
Wisconsin vs. Michigan

Do you think if Nebraska and Wisconsin were scheduled for the last weekend it would be played on Black Friday?

I'm still holding out hope that Nebraska and Minnesota agree to move it up a day. Something to look forward to without having the distraction of too many other games simultaneously.

Yeah, I think it's almost a certainty Nebraska vs. Minnesota will be played on Black Friday in 2020 and 2021. And in 2022 and 2023 Nebraska vs. Wisconsin will be on Black Friday.

Yes, The B1G did a historical ranking of each division during the recent realignment and it dictates the annual cross-over.

Historically speaking 1s v1s = OSU-Neb, 2s Wis vs Mich, 3s Iowa vs Penn State. They also stated in publicly disclosed rationale at that point, that there was clear separation after that- from the TIME PERIOD used.

The worst thing about that is for those of us who like to go the games, it can really, really, really frosty in Minneapolis in late November.

By the way, I dislike the Black Friday Iowa-Nebraska change...it was tremendous cooking for a house full of Nebraska and Iowa fans that are all related one day, then all going to the game the next day - then the next year doing the same in Cedar Rapids. Selfish, but I loved it for that reason!

But then you have these quotes from Eichorst and Riley, so maybe Black Friday is done

"Since moving to a nine-game conference schedule, Eichorst said, "it makes sense from a student-athlete health, safety and welfare perspective to play on Saturday at the end of the regular season."

Nebraska coach Mike Riley agrees, having said he "just likes Saturdays for football." Nebraska last closed the regular season on a Saturday in 1989, a home game against Oklahoma.

"I do not like to get out of the routine of what we do week to week to get ready for a game," Riley said. "So changing that is no fun for me because you always have a mystery of where your team is physically in what you need to do, and what you need to do in the actual preparation part of it."

And it looks like we'll be waiting until the end of time for that yellow and black team to ever win one. I see the Iowa-Purdue game eventually being called the "Never Was Classic."

Another stupid Delaney idea..

Be nice to play Michigan and Penn St as many times as we have to play Ohio St in the next 6 years counting the last two.
