I would have thought our supposed stud 197 recruit could record one F'ing takedown to beat a 30th ranked wrestler with the F'ing dual on the line, at Carver. But nope. 😡

Ya know, there was a time when Iowa's backups, up and down the lineup would piss pound 30th ranked wrestlers. Now the majority of our starters can't get one takedown. This is what the Iowa Wrestling version of rock bottom looks like.
May have to
Look for another 1 year portal guy at 197, one that will stick around for the entire season, unless Harvey can improve by leaps and bounds and get bigger and quicker in the off season.

Really wish both sides could have figured something out. Left the team with a huge hole at 197 regardless of who's fault it was. BS isn't beating anybody and HL is not ready either. Last night is what happens when you wrestle backups at 1/3 of the weights. Iowa just doesn't have the depth anymore to be successful doing that.
How severe is the knee injury Deluca had in his 1st match? Complete tear of a major ligament? Would be perfect for him to get his 5 matches while Peterson is out. I almost forgot he on the team, and is our only true blue chip recruit in 25 class.

If you wrestled with that vaunted Heavyweight coach that turns every heavy that walks through our doors into an instant title contender, oh wait, we have Bob Telford. At least we only pay him like $50K a year.

I believe he’s compensated through the HWC as well. He makes more than that.

It makes sense now on how it could have and eventually did put both sides on edge. Obviously, Iowa wanted Mo for this season with plans to go Ludington next season. If Mo decided quickly after the injury that he wanted to go for a 🏥 year, I could see a quick disagreement if there were differing opinions on the severity.

I get how Mo had to decide what is best for him and I get why Iowa would sever ties. No matter how they both dealt with it, neither side really wins…
Wasn’t it said he has had a chronic disc bulge in his neck but nothing serious. If he had a muscle strain in the neck, and knows his value in the portal will be much higher now he’s proved himself at the D1 level. He can be totally innocent in this, because Brands would know we are F’ed the rest of the season without him. I don’t think Tom would cut his own throat for the hell of it.

Actually Mo probably did win given that he made $ this year from Iowa while still preserving eligibility and then will get paid elsewhere next year.
In a way he played us for a fool. We took the chance, made him his best offer, wrestled just enough to prove himself and get paid , then get out of town and look for a much bigger bag next year. Well played.

I agree.

But I fear this is the new norm.

I remember Ben Askren saying kids should redshirt wrestle as much as they can during that redshirt year. Then go test the market

I missed it- what happened to Peterson?

Hard telling if that was his intention. I was just responding to the poster saying nobody won in the situation, when it seems like Mo, monetarily anyway, will have won.
His short transfer to Wisconsin, and the speculation being that he got NIL $ from Wisconsin before immediately transferring back to Wartburg, does raise a red flag though

With regards to this specific situation, it's at least worth pointing out (and some have) that this is now the second year in a row that Mo has had something weird happen w/ a D1 program.

That said, I stand by what I've said elsewhere; whatever the reason bad stuff is happening, it IS happening, and the accountability for that should always fall to the top of the pyramid.

Honest question...does NIL money get paid to the athlete in full prior to their season starting? Or at what point in the season? Is it the same for all athletes and sports? I don't know about wrestling, but I am fairly certain that BB players get their NIL before the season starts, or very early in the season.
