? hey, it's a start... notice that the South Endzone has expanded seats on each side with a new entrance - the MSU logo is on top of a black canvas...

That is something that many pro stadiums have that college stadiums do not.

Good work. I wonder if the expansion can be built in two phases, with Phase I being basically up to the club level in your drawing. That would be a damn good place for us to start. Further, I don't see the need for an endzone upper deck in the foreseeable future. Also, I have been told that the idea that we have a substantial waiting list for sky boxes isn't true; the waiting list simply doesn't justify a push to build more boxes.

I don't know what I hate more, that picture or the fact that the AD tended to use it a lot under LT.

The bottom part of a design like that is all we need in the 5 - 10 year future. There's nothing out there that suggests we could fill the stadium with more than 65k (if that) on a consistent basis. Building the bottom part would give us the realistic space we need while making the stadium look more like it belongs with the big boys. If we ever outgrew that, then we can always build up.

15 years ago, we couldn't get 35K at a big game. Now we average over 50 and easily get over 55K at big games. What makes you think we can't get 65 at big games in the next 5 years and average between 55 and 60? You have to build it BEFORE you need it. Otherwise, you are losing money for not being able to sell the seats and, more importantly, sell the skyboxes which have a waiting list. I don't understand why so many of our fans are so shortsighted.

A lot of new baseball stadiums have this feature. Ole Miss' endzone seating is like this as well (just covered). I like being able to stand in the hotdog line and still see the game live.

The new twins stadium has an awesome open concourse in the outfield...

but I'd hate to see us do a shitload of expanding and make it impossible to add boxes in the future. I say we go ahead and add them with the expansion so we can have them when we need them. I realize we don't have as much $$ in this state relative to some others, but our boxes are a helluva lot cheaper than most other SEC schools. The need will be there; we need to plan for it.

17-off. How is expanding in increments shortsighted? Build it to 65k -- if that's too small, expand to 75k. That's not shortsighted, that's reasonable. The State of MS has, at most, 3M people and supports 2 SEC football programs. Jackson is the closest metro area to starkville at 2 hours away and has only a couple hundred thousand people living there. The next closest metro areas are in the State of Alabama and Tennessee. It's going to be tough to get more than 65k into Starkville on a consistent basis when the majority of the small available population is split between two schools. Sorry, that's just the situation we are in.

Hell, look to Arkansas. They have a comparable logistic situation, but only one school to split the demand amongst. There is only one major program supported there and Razorback Stadium is 75k. I think we would be doing pretty well to have a 65k stadium.

The "if you build it they will come" theory may have some merits to it - but it's going to be tough to overcome the logistics I mentioned previously. It would be shortsighted to build some huge structure and gamble that it would be the right size for us. Nothing looks worse than an empty stadium.

Question for you since I'm too lazy to research it: How many people were turned away from buying season tickets this year and how long is the waiting list for sky boxes? Prove the demand is there, then I'll agree that I'm shortsighted.

You are thinking shortsighted...

Dumbass....

Anyway, if we are going to make up for lost time (TempletonTime), then this would be a reasonable timetable to follow.

End of 2009 season- Break ground at halftime of the Egg Bowl (this year) for a complete renovation of the West Side club level. This seems to be the most important issue with our stadium right now. Maybe even do some improvements to the lower level concourse of the west side because it looks like ****. Pull out the Nazilike fences surrounding the student section and club level and see if we can squeeze in an extra 1,000 into the stadium. This would all be complete by Fall 2010.

End of 2010 season- Break ground on the North End zone stadium expansion. An extra 15,000 seats would be a reasonable number to shoot for. Connect the East and West sides of the stadium similar to Auburn. We should do this in increments so that half of the seats (lowest 8,000) are done by Fall 2011 and the upper half (7-8K) is completed by Fall 2012. This two years could also be spent adding boxes (if demand is high) to the top of this section.

2014-2016- Something will need to be done with the Leo Seal M-Club building by this time. Maybe we can throw this in with an expansion to the South End zone sides of the West and East parts of the stadium. Another 4-5K could be added (similar to the South Park sketch above) by rounding off these sides.

All of this would put our stadium at around 75K by the year 2018. I think that is a reasonable level to shoot for.

You build the expansion now and you build it with as many premium seats and skyboxes as possible. The demand is there and the revenue is exponentially better. Also, with new seats in the endzone, the students section can be moved there. More BC donations required and the seat upgrade for existing BC members is that much better on the east and west sides. Every year you wait to build, the costs go up. Think how much cheaper the end zone expansion would be had it been built when the skyboxes were and second deck were added? Think how pretty the program would be sitting now? Think about the extra revenues that could now be generated?

Thanks LT.
