But I have very little doubt that the team we put on the field next year will be noticeably better than the one MSU puts out there.

and in a regional. There is going to be a huge revamping of the roster, and we return 7-8 decent players. We arent going to challenge for the national title, but we will back as one of the best 64 teams in the nation

I'm very skeptical right now. I was convinced we would at least be .500 or better on the overall record this year, and possibly be back at Hoover, but it doesn't look like those will happen either.

but I think that you might have gone bat **** crazy. That team I watch play ball tonight is at least 2-3 years away from being worth a damn. The worst pitching I have seen since high school and a 2nd rate pitcher made us look just plain silly.

but didnt expect or know if it was possible. Not making it this season is disappointing, but we are improved- the numbers show it. We just have to add more talent. And we have with this signing class. Cohen will slowly but shirley get us there

At least many of them won't be. We'll see a huge influx of new players next year and a lot of current players will be cut or see their roles greatly reduced.

Us rocket folks up here, like goatholder, are just so passionate...

Well, perhaps, he more than most.

I just now checked the score, and didn't even sigh.

As if unexpected loss, that.

Our iconic motto: Wait till next year.

next year. This season, we have hit the ball pretty well, and we have some power. Our baserunning has improved throughout the year. We have some decent starting pitching, and Routt has stepped up as an ace. We also play pretty good defense.

HOWEVER-

The bullpen is atrocious. It has absolutely killed us all year long. We had a guy throwing freaking 81 tonight. He wouldn't have even gotten a speeding ticket on the interstate with that crap.

I don't know what Cohen is going to do as far as purging or whatever we want to call it, but if we return who I think we are, we should be pretty good. We're probably going to have some seniors next year that are some pretty decent players, and we're also going to have some juniors as well. Our bullpen is probably going to be guys like Chris Stratton and Luke Bole, who while they will be Fr., at least have some decent stuff. And it may be good for them to get some SEC action coming in relief because I don't think most of the Fr. pitchers will be ready for SEC play as weekend starters, but I think that they could maybe go through an SEC lineup a time or two and be more effective than what are currently throwing. We also need a legit Sunday and midweek starter as well as closer to step up next year. We're also going to have to count on some JUCO OF's from Texas to step up right away depending on who goes in the draft. Runey Davis and Jaron Shepherd could be instant impact guys next year. Replacing Conner Powers will probably be our biggest loss off of this years team.

My point is this- some people have stated in this thread that MSU won't be significantly better. Well, by my count we have blown four SEC games because of the bullpen. If we had even a decent bullpen, we probably have 24-25 wins right now as opposed to the nineteen that we currently have, including non-conference games. Depending on what you call significant, but to me six wins is very significant at this point in the year.

What lofty expectations? I think most people expected this baseball team to struggle with sneaking into the postseason being the best case scenario.

Come on Goat. This isn't the "last of the freebies". If you're giving us freebies, you still owe us 3 more in about 3 weeks.

It was a solid midweek win for us, nothing more, except that it's a midweek win against a team with a better RPI than a lot of the midweek teams we face. More than any bragging rights, I was glad to see Bukvich perform well. That's a couple outings in a row, and he did this one against a team that actually hits fairly well in SEC play. Gives me just a little bit more confidence about our postseason chances.

We'll wait til next year, and I'm sure you'll be winning the SEC title, which will suck for us, because it'll mean we have to finish dead last in the SEC, since there are only so many wins to go around in the state of Mississippi. I'll be sure to enjoy this ride while it lasts. I'm sure we'll never be good again after this year, just like we only have 2 more years of football before Mullen and MSU take over the world, and we go back to 3-9 every year.

Make a regional and sneak into the SEC tournament with the #7 or #8 seed. That would require about as much improvement from this year to next year as we're seeing from last year to this year (and there's no doubt that while we still pretty much suck, we're definitely improved over last year). It takes 2-3 years to build a program up when it's down as bad as ours was when Cohen took over.

Sneed, Hogue (Sr. so not returning), Duffy, R. Powers, C. Powers, F. Moore, Routt, and Whitney are 8 that I wouldn't mind having back at all.

This "get rid of everybody" mentality is overboard. We'll see a bunch of new faces, but there are guys that we need back to form a nucleus. You can't count on one new recruiting class to overhaul a roster.

I would Butler and Adkins to that list as well. To be honest about it, I think Pace will be a keeper and a healthy Freeman would be a keeper as well.

for at least TRYING to win with Polk's guys. Honestly, he has done pretty well without a bullpen. I think the worst thing he could have done is do like Croom and kick everyone out and start from scratch.

I mean, shoot, if we get hot somehow, we might even backdoor ourselves into a regional.
