Patdog, Liverpool started out better than I expected but reality has set in now. You can't have that many changes and not have a drop off. I think they will eventually gel but it may be too late for a title challenge this year. Unfortunately the changes were needed. Salah, van Dyke, Robertson, and Allison are getting old, and it's showing. Slot is still stirring the pot too, trying to come up with THE recipe with the new ingredients. It's just going to take a bit. We did great business in the summer but not getting Guehi is a blow. We needed him. I think it's going to Arsenal and City in the title race.

Yeah. It's looking pretty bad right now. I knew this would come, but didn't think it'd be quite this bad. My goal for the season has always been to just qualify for Champions League. And right now, we're still 4th (actually 3rd), so we're on pace for that. Pretty concerning that the high profile transfers brought in are all disappointments so far. And Salah and Van Dyke are both getting old real quick. Needed Guehi in the worst way and needed to convince Diaz to stay.

Losing Diaz was worse than losing Trent. Also don't forget Jota. He would have been here and he would have been a BIG help.

Yeah, obviously losing Jota was huge. Especially the way we lost him.

Update. Liverpool are clearly a tier below Arsenal and City. Last season was the definition of a fluke

No it wasn't. Liverpool have been one of the most consistent teams in the EPL for the last decade. If it weren't for some truly spectacular seasons from City Klopp would have won multiple titles. Your ignorance is showing.

As for this year, yes. Too many new boys in too short of a time. It had to be done but the transition was always going to be bumpy.

Since 2022, Arsenal have been head and shoulders above Liverpool. Health for Liverpool and injury unluckiness for arsenal were the reason the EPL went the way it did. Even still Arsenal proved they were the better squad in the UCL

Nope. It was the last great season for an aging that had been hugely successful for a decade. This year is a very different team. But they’ll put it together.

Liverpool honors in the last decade:

2019 Champions League
2020 Premier League
2020 Super Cup
2020 Club World Cup
2022 FA Cup
2022 League Cup
2024 League Cup
2025 Premier League

Arsenal in the same time frame:
2020 FA Cup

City have been better over that time frame. Arsenal have not.

Good thing I said 2022. Arsenal are clearly ahead. Slot inherited a solid squad and got lucky year 1. The bill is coming this year. Wirtz and Isak were crazy overspends

Well, since 2022 Arsenal have won nothing at all. Liverpool won four trophies in that time period. As I have nothing against Arsenal, I went back a little farther to at least give you SOMETHING to show.

Can’t argue with that but just know Arsenal are set up for success vs Liverpool being a house of cards

Good time to bring this thread back up with UCL round of 16 starting and FA Cup Quarters announced. Big storyline is Arsenal going from winning nothing in 20 years to a possible (highly unlikely) quadruple, Tottenham being relegated???, and United possibly finding a manager finally

Crazy thing is, as bad as everything has gone wrong for Liverpool and as mediocre (bad) as they've played, right now they're only out of the Champions League on goal differential (assuming EPL gets a 5th CL berth which seems close to certain).

Even crazier potentially. What if Tottenham gets relegated and wins the Champions League? All 6 EPL teams are in the round of 16, including Tottenham.

This has been the worst season for injuries I can remember for Liverpool. We have played pretty bad at times. Salah is a shadow of his former self. We have so many new guys who have just started to mesh. Despite all of that, still have a fighting chance at getting into the CL next year. It's kind of hard to believe really.

Injuries - seems I say that every year.
Salah - got to sell him this summer. Never seen a player get so bad so fast. He had one of the best seasons all time just last year.
Not getting Guehi or another center back has cost us badly. Van Dyke is getting old fast and Konate is very inconsistent. Both are mediocre at best right now.
The tragic Jota death is hurting bad too. He would have made a real difference at that outside forward position.

Here is a prediction: Arsenal wins the league, Liverpool gets into the CL, and West Ham stay up, because the results of the case against City finally come through. :D

The injuries at right back have been the worst. Jota would have been worth several points for sure.

I dislike every other big 6 club other than Arsenal so I can’t pretend that I feel bad for Liverpool but Isak has been less than helpful from my perspective

Tottenham winning the UCL would be the most shocking thing in football history. They have been beyond awful. Far and away the worst form in the league
