No, not Joe, this time.

Chicken Cosmo: Gone

Ye Olde College Diner and Grilled Stickies: Gone

Baby’s: Gone

The Deli: Gone

Donuts To Go and Chocolate Bismarcks: Gone

Bubba’s Breakaway: Gone

Is there an on-going conspiracy to get rid of all the good food at PSU? I bet there is. We need a sleuth.

😞

Yeah, the large scale homogenization of every city in America is disheartening. Went to Chicago for the first time in over a decade and was stunned at how much it felt like Manhattan - sure, there are still unique neighborhoods and pockets of local cultural identity but it’s the same stores everywhere. It’s worse when it happens to smaller places like State College because there is little room for local places to compete with the chains.

State College still gets a decent number of local restaurants. Sadly, there is a lot of turnover.

I haven’t been back to State College since before the Skeller changed owners. Has it changed? Is Zeno’s still the same? Corner Room? Isn‘t the Clothesline for cheap T-shirts and sweatshirts gone?

Sad that a college town can't support....and the owners run......a decent diner, especially with the tradition of the College Diner. My uncle worked there in the 50's when he was a student. Think it was called the New College Diner at that time. It was a staple when I was at PSU in the 80's. But after I graduated I remember reading stories about mismanagement and poor health/retaurant inspections. Sad :(

On a related note, when I was in State College for a conference a few years ago I ate at the Corner Room. Seemed like that place really slipped from when I was at PSU. Poor service, and it felt worn and rough around the edges. Hope they have cleaned it up a bit since then.

I loved Bubba’s Breakway (B U B B A, have you Bubba’d today?) and CC Peppers cheesesteaks at Parkway Plaza (I think it was called. Been a long time) over by Westerly Parkway. They’re not still around, are they?

I think there were four or five CC Peppers locations at one point, but the only one left now is in the Walmart plaza on North Atherton.

Family clothesline is more than just cheap t shirts and has been for a while. I knew John the owner, he was a former expos farmhand, and before he passed he started to sell more of the team Nike gear and stuff like that as well. Wanted to compete with the expensive places and separate his store from mclanahans and sbs types.

Yeah - it has everything now and is buzzing on GameDay. Definitely different than when I was a student. The discount place is closer to where Lion’s Pride is on College Ave.

Surprised Cafe 210 West is not on this list. It was our hangout in graduate school back in the mid-80s

They think it's progress when it's actually the death of a places natural culture.

I was just thinking about The Shandygaff, I haven’t been there in decades. I just looked it up though and it looks like it’s still around?

Anyone been to the Gaff recently?
