Pretty simple, if you get players out of the portal, you will lose the guys you sign out of HS.
Really don't see any of these players actually interested in building a powerhouse roster to compete for a championship.
It's one in and one out and as a coach you have to hope that you're on the right side of the trade off

I think Self made the right moves, bringing in known production and losing kids that don’t produce. But, most coaches try to win to keep their jobs, they don’t have a lifetime contract like some of the dumbest AD’s and Presidents.

Proof that just because you're a high recruit and MCDAA, doesn't mean you can play at the next level.

.. So not sure why Kansas fans think swapping him out for Mgbako is some automatic upgrade. We could very well be in this same spot next year, where we are talking about pushing out Mgbako for the next top25 recruit.

I do kind of love UK fans freaking out over Mgbako as well.

"Kansas just got the 9th recruit?! WHAT ARE WE DOING?"
".. well, we have 3 recruits higher.. soo.."
"Oh, they're all going to suck!"
Difference is Self put an experienced guy like Dickinson around him.Our experienced guys are Ugo and Thiero who might as well be freshmen for all they played last season.

Maybe they are talking about what Cal is going to do to our 3 higher ranked recruits. And if Mgbako is transferring because of playing time, we will talk to him if our SF/PF allows UK to talk to him or anyone that might jeopardize their playing time.

Yeah he made Kansas better next season.
The downside is he lost younger players who could develop.
He now has to go back to the portal next year to replace those two because he didn't sign anyone out of HS who would start as a FR.

In a way the college player has more power than the pro player because he can go to the portal/de-commit if he's unhappy.
The pro player is under contract so if the team makes a trade and diminishes their role, it's just tough ****.

Oscar and Reeves will really help, plus we are definitely going to get a 3/4 swing transfer if Livingston leaves (like the SDSU kid or one of the other ones available).

Hoping like hell Oscar comes back- that solves all of our problems.

This sucks.Kansas will be loaded.

Kansas is losing pretty much their whole team. Self has never had a team that will be THIS inexperienced in his system.

They have 2 returners, four incoming freshmen that are all 4 star recruits (significantly lower than our class), and right now 3 transfers coming in, only 1 of which is ranked in the top 35 transfers according to On3 (Dickinson).

Not sure I really understand why everyone is thinking Kansas is going to be so loaded. What am I missing?

I’m really not convinced you can play Dickenson, Adams, and Mcbako at the same time. I also think they are going to really struggle on defense. Harris is an incredible defensive player but he can’t guard all 5. Dickenson, Timberlake, and Mbako look to be poor defenders.

I don't understand it either. It's just griping at this point. I said in another thread, our fanbase would be losing their **** if we lost the amount of guys above. Even with Mgbako, and assuming we get Reeves back.. I prefer our team as of now,

If we get Reeves and Oscar back, and land one of these 3/4 combo transfers (like the SDSU kid) our roster absolutely kicks the **** out of KUs.

It's close right now anyways (with the assumption that Reeves comes back), but I think we'll be much better in November, especially because I think Oscar returns.

It's not sounding good that Oscar returns now sadly.

I think Ugo will be very good by his junior year but just don't think he's ready for a starter role right now.

I could very well be wrong.. and there's a lot he still has to prove. But his per40/per36 numbers were very promising. I think he has the makeup to be like an AD/Nerlens. Now, not to that level. I'm not going that far. But I think he could easily be a 12/7 guy with 2-3 blocks a game next year.

Well this is obvious. With the addition of Dickinson, makes sense. KJ Adams will play the 4 spot next to Dickenson. The team is loaded. Alot of guys, shooters, will be on the bench, especially if Self lands Mbagko.

Kansas will take a step back. They still may be very good to great, but they don't have anyone that is going to replace Jalen Wilson. He was a baller.

I'd rather have a roster that features Bradshaw/Livingston/Edwards/Reeves/Wagner as a starting five over one that includes Oscar/Bradshaw/Edwards/Reeves/Wagner.

I want the offensive matchup advantage at every position.

The top 3 and Udeh are all big losses. The other dudes listed had NO chance at becoming special players. None besides maybe MJ Rice. We had the worst bench in college ball last year statistically and Coach Self decided to clean house. Again, tried to convince Udeh and Rice to stay but tough to tell a guy he is a part of the picture when you’re signing guys at their positions.

Overall will be a more complete team next year. But still similar to y’all most years, a lot of new faces that will have to put it together—just a bit more college experience than freshmen.
