PLAYOFF SZN

Marist-27 Stevenson-15....There are no easy outs in 8A. This will be a tough game for Marist but I think they make a few big plays to move on.

Naz-45 Andrew-14...Not sure the Bolts give Naz much of a game.

Benet-31 Maine West-21...Favorable matchup for the Redwings.

Notre Dame-28 Iggy-14...This is assuming a healthy Ty Gavin. If he is not 100%, this will be a close one. Excited to see this matchup.

JCA-40 Metamora-30...JCA's running game will be a lot for any 5A team to handle. Hope we get a Montina/JCA showdown for the championship but Highland and Hillcrest will be tough outs.

As for the standings...week 9...WOOF! No one had Viator winning. And only one person correctly called JCA AND CoM getting week 9 wins (DigitalCy). A few predictors that have been with us since week 1 mysteriously did not make week 9 picks. Just a strange final week of ESCC action.

Standings:

1. Digital Cy (last week: 4-1, overall: 46-9 (84%)) REGULAR SEASON CHAMP
2. pjjp (last week: 2-3, overall: 44-11 (80%))
2. Voodoo Tatum (last week: 2-3, overall: 36-9 (80%))
3. PowerI66 (last week: 3-2, overall: 43-12 (78%))
4. Southland Fan 2016 (last week: 3-2, overall: 42-13 (76%))
5. lkhammer57 (last week: 3-2, overall: 41-14 (75%))
5. DCH88 (last week: 0-5 [DNP], overall: 41-14 (75%))
5. stonedlizard (last week: 0-5 [DNP], overall: 41-14 (75%))
6. ESCC Fan (last week: 2-3, overall: 38-17 (69% (nice)))
7. JolietWest 89 (last week: 2-3, overall: 34-21 (62%))

Ignatius getting back some key defensive players... wouldn’t be susprised if they pull off the upset. Took a very good Loyola team to overtime

Something wrong with those standings. Are their two Pjjp’s? Did Jchill do the pickem? Which one is 84percent and which one is tied with the lowly Voodoo at 80percent.

42-8 was my record before that dismal Week 9 performance.

Congratulations to JCA Keenan Hailey being named ESCC offensive player of the year. Know only if the O-Line can get some love. Wouldn’t get that honor without them for sure. Big guys need love too. Lol

He was what? He’s a nice player but he won that award over Markett, Love, Evans and Gavin? Ok sure.

Marist over Stevenson....Stevenson is limping into the playoffs on the heels of a 2-game losing streak. The game is at Marist. The Redhawks should roll in this one. They have a potentially very tough road in 8A. They could see NC, H-F, then BR or Warren. 8A is always a bear, though. At least they are on the opposite side of LWE.

Naz over Andrew...Andrew played LWW tough in Week 9, but also is on a 2-game losing streak. How far will the Roadrunners go in 7A? I was confident in their chances, then Marist happened. Now? Not so sure. 7A seems very wide open. A case could be made for Simeon, Batavia, ESL, MC etc. Then, you have a number of undefeated teams somewhat under the radar in Willowbrook, Glenbard East and Rolling Meadows. Add in some dark horses like WWS and STCN. 7A may be the most interesting class this year.

Benet over Maine West....Benet has lost three games at home. This one is on the road. MW hasn't played the toughest of schedules. This is a decent draw for Benet. They have a chance at the quarters, but that appears to be their ceiling.

ND over Ignatius....not an easy pick here. Iggy is a bit of a wild card. Are they the team that extended LA to OT or the team that got blown out by MC? How healthy is Ty Gavin? Did ND sit other guys against JCA? Did JCA expose some issues in their run defense? They got a decent draw avoiding the C-G, Phillips and PR bracket. I really liked the Dons' chances in 6A before Week 9. They could make a run to the semis or lose in the 1st round.

JCA over Metamora....very impressive win in Week 9, even with catching a major break by playing a Gavin-less ND. This will be their first game on grass, although they practice on it. A wet, sloppy track may be to their benefit. This should be a very physical game between two teams that haven't played since two championship matchups in 1999 and 2000. Tough to get a handle on the Hilltoppers. Quite frankly, their Week 9 win shocked me. Good teams have shut down their offense and exposed their defense. They essentially won a road playoff game in Week 9. Can they carry the momentum forward in Week 10? No idea.

Don’t shoot the messager. I didn’t vote him in. Just posting what I saw. I know he has a ton of yards and td’s. Not sure how he stacks up numbers wise but if you ever seen him on a consistent basis instead of one or two games, you would see he’s really good. Been that way for four years. He’s been a sleeper for sure. A lot has to do with JCA’s record last two years.

I really like him but those are some marquee players on teams that whooped JCA (not ND) I’m just very surprised.

Interesting didn’t know that. I saw the IC and Naz games so I’m biased.
Understand. Like I said, quietly did well. Lol. Under the radar. He runs hard. Probably has most yards after contact I have ever seen. You think you stopped him, then he squeezes out a hole. Quite amazing.

Jchill, what are you smoking? Hailey didn’t do anything against Marist. Frankly, I thought he must’ve been injured because he seemed to run very tentatively that gane. Ianatone was a beast that day. Ianatone probably had twice as many yards then Hailey. Guaranteed Hailey had less than 100 yards.

Not saying he’s not a good RB, but that statement is patently false on that night.

I stand corrected on that total against Marist. Iannatonne had over 100. Sorry for that. But just so you know, I don’t smoke and never have. But I’ve been known to knock a few back from time to time. Lol

So I see Markett won MVP so he’s out, I will not be biased and say Love/Evans but why not Gavin??? He missed 1 game?

If Keenan runs like he can and Ianatone pounds out tough yards, JCA will be hard to stop week 1.

Can’t comment on Gavin. Don’t know his stats and didn’t see him play this year. I don’t know how that is picked. Does anybody know? Maybe edgy can answer that. Is it all the coaches in the escc???? I don’t know.

Marist in a close, hard-fought game.

Nazareth running clock. As an old SICA West guy, I hate Andrew. We always got screwed there in basketball.

Benet Academy but props to Maine West on making the playoffs.

Notre Dame, will be close if Gavin is not healthy.

Joliet Catholic on a late two-point converstion.

Marist over Stevenson: Not a favorable match-up for the RedHawks, but Marist seems to have the feel of a semi final at worst type of squad. I think they win by 17, but it's not going to be easy

Naz over Andrew: Naz won't have much stress

Benet over Maine West: Ahh, a rare early playoff rematch in the 1-32 seeding. Maine West is an awesome story. First outright conference title since the early 60's and a Coach who's done an amazing job at building a healthy program. I will cheer for Maine West, but Benet is ESCC tested and they are big boys. Benet by 3 scores

Notre Dame over Ignatius: If Gavin is fully effective, this won't be close. If Gavin is playing hurt, it will be a good game. If Gavin is out, this has upset written all over it. I still take ND due to depth and more talent, but Ignatius took Loyola to the brink. That experience will play huge for them as they will not fear the Dons, but I still will take ND by 12 (Assuming Gavin is good to go)

JCA over Metamora: I ragged on JCA all year and while they may have caught a break in not facing Gavin in week 9, they got the job done and earned this opportunity. This will be classic Joliet Football offensively. They will run it down Metamora's throat to a 20 point victory

Appreciate the good comments and the fan support... hopefully the boys at Maine West can do better than 3 score difference! MW has most all of it's key players back from last year, and they have improved tremendously.

Jake Belizzi, the main TB and best LB, would be All-State at any name program in the area, and has a good chance to make it this year at Maine West. Also have other skill players that will hurt you when the other team loads up the box. The entire Off Line returned from last year and the special teams are truly "special" this year with 4 kicks (2 punts and 2 KO's) returned for TD's.

Kradman has done a fantastic job as HC building a culture and putting the players in the best spot to succeed.

Will need to come out ready to play as it is absolutely a step up in competition against Benet, but if they look past MW at all from last year's results, they could be in for a big surprise.

Good luck to all the teams out there this year... special time of year and can't wait for the games on Friday night!

Marist over Stevenson- Looking forward to this 8a bracket.

Naz over Andrew- Should be an easy win for Naz

Benet over Maine West- 2-3 TD win for Benet to start the post season

Notre Dame over Iggy- this is going to be a short game, lots of running I trust that Gavin will bring it I think ND wins but it's close due to the nature of the Iggy offense

JCA over Metamora- Really interested in this game, would love to be there if I could, but it's not going to happen I think it will be a generally tight game then JCA pulls away late

Not such a favorable match-up for the Redwings or for all of you posters that predicted a Benet win by 2-3 touchdowns.... Maine West prevails 20-18 in a great game!! We shut down their run game completely and I was blessed to be able to watch my son haul in 2 TD passes and make 7 tackles to help MW to their first playoff win in history!! Coach Kradman has done wonders with the program in 5 years and hope to give Willowbrook all they can handle next week! Don't sleep on Maine West!!

Definitely proved me (and many others) wrong! First playoff win in school history is really awesome...and over a really rough Benet team!

Huge congrats to you, your son and the Maine West program. Now go get that second playoff win in program history!

Thank you! Always enjoy the discourse on here and it's fun to talk about this great game. No easy wins in the playoffs... will be fun playing at least one more week.

Good luck to all on here as well!
