Might as well keep the weekly thread going. OK showing week 1 for the conference. Good wins by Viator and Benet. CoM played tough. Dons were outmatched. Marist--kind of surprised they went down after looking really strong through the season. But, as many have pointed out, New Trier is legit.

MCC-28 Hillcrest-14
Naz-31 Vernon Hills-16

Lake Forest-24 Viator-14
Benet-27 Normal-20

(Take my picks with a grain of sale--I know next to nothing about most of these opponents. I mostly start these weekly threads for input from much more knowledgeable fans on the weekly matchups).

Does anybody have any info on Normal Ironmen?
I tried to find any of their games on Cube, but could not find one.
Roster on MaxPreps shows decent size.

trying to make it out. Saturday is a way better day for me than Fridays. I love lights but FNF is not conducive with everything I have going on.

I was also surprised at the Marist loss. Also impressed with Viator's win and Carmel's close loss to SCN. Some embers from the "dumpster fire" will remain after this week.

MCC 31 Hillcrest 21...will the turf help to neutralize Hillcrest's speed? Not overly impressed with the SoS of Hillcrest. Marian has been in a "must win" situation since Week 8 and have won 3 in a row. Have to like the Canes at home.

Naz 24 Vernon Hills 7....I hear LGP is a lovely place to watch a game this time of year. Hopefully, the VH fans will enjoy the fan experience. IMO, the Naz "parking czar" gets a bad rap. Afterall, he's working under the constraints of a 2A-sized facility and has to deal with Naz fans every home game. That would be tough on anyone. Oh, the game? VH's SoS looks a bit suspect. The Naz defense should shine to set up the Jwar Bowl next week in Woodstock.

Lake Forest 24 Viator 17....the Lions got a quality win on the road against Boylan in Round 1. They now travel to face a battle-tested Lake Forest squad. If they win? They get the PR/Montini winner. I'd say that's a pretty tough 6A draw. Have to be impressed with what the new coach has accomplished. Viator has played well defensively all year. Giving the slight edge to the Scouts at home.

Benet 31 Normal 24....Benet hung on to beat a tough Hoffman Estates team last week. Normal had a close win over Belleville West. One of my best fan experiences was watching JCA dismantle a Normal team on a 26-game winning streak in 2007 in Normal. I see Benet getting this win on the road as well. Not sure how good the Big 12 was this year, and Benet is battle-tested.

IC would not beat the top 6 teams in ESCC. I know IC is having a great season and I know most of those kids but they would not beat NAZ, Marist, ND, Carmel, St. Pats, St. Viator, or MCC.

Marist? What was that...anyhow good year too early an exit.

MCC wins big! That Roadtrip and agree the SOS looks suspect

Benet - they get it done. They have a great squad that can continue the run.

St. Viator- pick Em? Small edge to LF simply based off of the stage and homefield. I would expect to see Kmet all over the field to help pull it off. I'm hoping they keep going

Naz- if the young fellas are over the hump they can play with the 5- wide set. My gut says there are too many athletes on the defensive side for Naz for VH to be successful throwing all over the place as they love to do. If the QB is contained Naz wins. Just my gut because can't make heads or tailed of VH SOS, that Highlan Park team they lost too look really bad in the replay of their 1st round blowout to Plainfield North.

Saw the LWW/Normal game this year and what surprised me was their defense.

I knew the high scoring offense would have trouble with the LWW D and they did. The passing game was above average/the running game did not impress me. Have some size on the OL and at WR but average speed.

But on D they have two really good D-Ends that have size and speed. The middle of the D-line was your typical short/heavy run stoppers. The linebackers were solid and the D-backs were much better than expected. Yes I was watching the D go against a poor LWW O but they definitely made an impression.

Overall I think this is an underrated team and will give Benet a tough game. Last year they beat Schaumburg and Main South before losing to semifinalist Libertyville in the 7A quarters so I don't think they can be overlooked.

Obviously haven't seen ic play. Ic would/could beat nd, Carmel, st pats, mcc and yes naz... not sure about Marist. ND was a bad team that went 6-3 in the escc this year. ... that tells me a lot about the level of this conference this year. Normally a top 3-4 conference but def not this year.

You said you haven't. You're one of those edgytim warriors that has somehow seen every single team play? IC would get absolutely mauled up front by all those teams. IC has way more talent than your typical 3a teams and certainly more than the **** 5a/6a teams in their conference but that's quite a bit different than what's in the ESCC. IC wouldn't make it through the season in that conference. Kids will get hurt and then what? They're a really good 3a team but you just named 8a/7a schools, they can't keep up with those teams for 4 quarters and certainly not for a conference slate.

Lol not an edgy tim warrior. I've seen all of those teams on film(some in person)and You are absolutely wrong. I don't always use the transitive property but here's one since you don't agree. St Laurence beat a 7-2 benet team that beat all of those teams you listed. Ic beat st Laurence(who also beat st Rita) by two tds yet you don't think ic could beat those teams? Cmon, get off of your high horse.

IC is a really good 3a team and in a few weeks will be great but have you seen their line play? Not up to snuff in the ESCC. Have you seen the line play at ND for instance? Each team has one or more athletes that can at the very least help neutralize Rowell.

I'm not an ESCC fan, just a realist. I'm actually a Fenwick guy. Please don't claim they'd beat Fenwick, because the Friars would beat the hell out of IC.

I've seen ND. Their line play is bad. Huge but sooo slow. I didnt see any athletes on ND that are anywhere near Rowell. Not even close.

Which is why I said I don't like to use it. Just trying another argument since seeing those teams play and breaking down their film wasn't enough in our discussion.

ND OL would pound IC into submission. 5 yards a pop all the way down the field. I don't know as much about ND's athletes as other schools but they're and 8a playoff team, I would bet they have some athletes to help neutralize Rowell. I do know Carmel, Naz and even Pats have some athletes that can/would neutralize him. (I'm not saying better athletes but kids that would slow him down as opposed to the kids that have been trying to tackle him all year.

No because it brings questions about whether you know much about line play, whether you know about the effects size and strength have on the outcome and whether you can decipher competition levels.

Lol. Okay. I feel pretty good about what I know about line play. We can agree to disagree. I'd like to hear some thoughts from bishop macs or stl coaches.

They're also destroying ****** teams, they also shut down what will be a bigger recruit than Rowell. Obviously I don't believe that Tuscola beats any of them but if you can overlook all the aforementioned things regarding IC why can't you with Tuscola?
