Conference has begun to take shape. It appears to be Marist/Naz on top with ND/Benet right behind and then a mix of MCC/Viator/JCA/Pats. Should continue to get clarity this week...

Benet-28 Viator-21...this is probably the GOTW in conference.

Marist-38 MCC-20

Pat's-45 Marian-7

ND-31 JCA-21

Naz-35 CoM-14

Last week definitely provided additional clarity.

Benet over Viator....agree this is the GOTW. Viator's program seems to be on an upswing. Benet had a nice bounce back win after the ND loss. It's at Viator, but Benet's defense may be the difference.

Marist over MCC...if the injury situation at MCC is as dire as suggested, this one will not be close.

Pat's over Marian of the Heights....big road win for Pat's last week. Gonna be a long year for the Spartans.

ND over JCA....Ty Gavin and the line line play will be the difference. Don't see JCA matching up physically with the Dons.

Naz over CoM....Carmel's schedule has been a bear thus far. It doesn't get any easier in this one. Too much speed and talent for the young Corsairs.

Looks like a snoozer this week in the ESCC

Benet over Viator I guess you call this GOTW. Has potential to be the most competitive.

Marist over MCC. This will get ugly

Pat's over Marian Heights.

ND over JCA Call me crazy but I think JCA has a chance in this one.

Naz over CoM Carmel is just too beat up right now.

Viator Over Benet...Both teams are looking to prove their spot in the pecking order- toss up IMO

Marist destroys MCC if the injuries are as impactful as I read here..

St Pats throughly enjoys the ESCC version of bye week

I'm gonna cosign for godfather on this one...ND physically should win this game- but if the o-line can open holes for KJ, well we've seen what speed can do ND 24 JCA 17

Naz 21 over CC 10- with Benet/JCA looming before Marist week 7 the road trip and looking ahead keeps it within striking.

Benet vs. Viator- Benet in a tight one. 28-21

Marist vs. MCC. Marist big. Running clock.

Pat's vs. Marian Heights. Pat's. Marian is terrible. 20 something kids on varsity. Ridiculous.

ND vs. JCA. ND wins. JCA glory days are gone my friends.

Naz vs. CoM. Naz wins soundly. Blame it on what you want for CoM. Not good. Can't run the ball anymore to keep games close, which was what they were good at. Tough schedule. Young. Poor coaching. Shoot.....the forum experts...say it all. How about they are not good at tackle football right now.

Scottina judges CCHS on a three game sample size? Against what are potential quarter-final teams in their respective classes? Unbelievable.

Against Richards the score was 14-14 at the start of the 4th quarter.
CCHS had several opportunities against DeKalb to make that a close game.
Marist...well, they are Marist. Every Marist opponent will most likely struggle running against that front seven.

Actually, not judging the players or coaches. Judging the posters. CoM always plays a tough, legit schedule. Now this year....posters use it as a explanation for the poor start. Posters have blamed the defensive coaches "not progressing". like the offense. Reality. CoM offense can't run the ball (which was what they've been great at) and manages to have 15 second drives, giving opponents extra offensive plays. Not the defense fault. The offense isn't doing much. Defense is always on the field. Always.

Which is exactly the opposite of how it used to be, the CCHS running game would eat up clock, score points, best defense is a good offense kind of thing. Not to judge CCHS after three games, this (losing) has been going on for quite some time now.

And it seemed like for years all the critics were complaining about Carmel's archaic offense. Now they spread it out and people are wondering why they aren't running the ball like the old days.

And....not to bring up an old post, but read a few weeks ago the discussion going on how some of the private schools aren't getting the kids. High Tuition, better public schools surrounding them, Public schools improving facilities...etc. CoM is no exception. Their struggles are the same as the other private schools. If you have the chance to send your son to one of the Lincoln Way's or to a private school. Or even Lake County. Very good high schools, good athletics. No advantage to sending your kid to a private school. Shoot...even in the city it's changing. Kids leaving Mt. Carmel to go to Phillips (actually another non boundary school).

It's safe to assume that if you could send your kid to Carmel, you probably aren't living in North Chicago, Waukegan, Zion or Round Lake. As far as the so on........that's about it. Wauconda and Grant.......beautiful facilities and a good education. Can't go wrong there. Everywhere else in Lake County.....pretty much better for the total student athlete.

Carmel lost its football mojo sometime ago, spread or not.

Since 2010 CoM is 34-35 I believe and in that time St Joes left the escc so adding another non conference game changed the game. Coach Bitto's total losses as a coach I believe are 66-67 and that spans 17-18 yrs. In the 2010 season they were 10-2 with the Elder loss and St Rita loss in the qtr. finals. 2011, they were 7-4 and that was the end of the run. Since then it's been a challenge with only 2 playoff appearances in 5 yrs.

Nonconfernce losses since 2010 season.

Elder from Cincy
Wazata from MN.
LWE twice
Glenbard North twice
Phillips
Waukesa west once
DeKalb twice
Richards- once
JCA - once played wk1 nonconf 2011
Fenwick - once

Hope the youth can bring back CoM to being relevant again.

The issue is your assumption.

Waukegan families have a large footprint at CCHS.

Swing away again Scottina.

With regard to the general student population, COM loses that holdout contingent from NE Lake Co. as much to St. Joseph of Kenosha as it does to 8th grade moves further into the county or relocations. Anastasia in the north 1/2 of Waukegan and likely Humility in Beach Park are indicative of this.

Agreed with the schedule. Very tough first 2 weeks over the years and it's not they probably aren't trying to get easier opponents, like many schools do. Give some money and feed some CPS school to come play you. Especially, if you know you aren't as good as you were in the past. Again....sure they've been trying.

So....there are a lot of kids that would be playing football at Waukegan High School, that are on the Carmel roster?

Not sure about who plays football at CoM from Waukegan but, a good amount attend the school from there. The bus that would take kids from Carmel to the Lake county court house in Waukegan was filled everyday when my kids were at Carmel.

Benet over Viator
Marist over MCC probably by a lot
Pats over Marian to get to 2-2 (if pats has a shot at the playoffs the week 9 matchup vs MCC might be a fun one to watch with potentially two teams fighting for their playoff lives)
ND over JCA- but I get a feeling this will be closer than we think, JCA at home and desperate for a win, this could having the making for an upset, but from what I have heard ND is legit this year so I have to go with them. Really would not be surprised to see an upset or close game though. A motivated and desperate team is a scary team

Shoot, my bad. Disregard my comment now lol. Still maybe if theyre motivated and desperate they could be a tough opponent, but on the road I don't like it as much.

JMO, and anyone with the stats feel free to prove me wrong, I suspect Carmel gets minimal football players from LZ/Lib/Stevenson school districts anymore.

I would bet they get more from wauconda, grayslake, mundelein. Districts with not as good of public schools as the ones you mentioned.

Agree though did hear Carmel got some kids from there after the issues at LZ. Don't know who they are or impact to the team. I believe IHSA approved the transfer w/o sitting a yr. Obviously LZ has not been effected by transfers this year. St Mary's of BG has impacted kids from Stevie area. Use to have close to 1000 kids I believe or close too and a football team and now the enrollment is a fraction of that with no football team

Was Marian Central super banged up heading into last nights game. Thought they were supposed to be one of ESCC better teams yet Marist had 42 point lead at half? Or is Marist just that good?
