If there was ever a time where you could say the score of a game doesn't tell the story of a game, it applies to this one. Props to the kids and coaches at Batavia for being nothing but class.(can't say that about some fans, but that's anywhere you go.) Let's talk officiating for a second...... Clear interception overturned(judgment call) procedure calls(both ways) were obvious. Unsportsman like,(judgement) but the one that everybody in the stadium saw, but this crew refused to call was the continuous 12 man in the huddle. That can only be incompetence or unwillingness to call. Guess which one I think it was.

Only watched the first half of the game but from what I seen East side is very good on both sides of the ball. Very quick defensive line was in the backfield almost as soon as the RB got the ball. Unless Batavia is not as good as predicted East side is going to be very hard to beat in 5A. Hoping they go to 6A for Montini's, JCA's, Rita's, etc. sake.
Haven’t seen the play but if another receiver is blocking/blocked downfield at any point in that play before the pass there can be OPI. It could be a block just beyond the LOS that freed up the WR or a kid blocking on the other side of the field. Either way the flag wouldn’t come out until the ball goes into the air because it’s not a foul until that time. OPI can be more mysterious to a crowd or coaches than DPI because it can happen 50yds away from the play(where everyone in the stands is watching) and 8seconds after the guilty act occurs.
To be clear, it was two go routes on each side of the ball. So it was one (WR) on each side against two DB’s. The WR basically split the DBs and ran right by them. The side judge threw the flag and eventually called holding on the QB. It was a mistake, which happens. It only becomes an issue when someone tries to justify a mistake. Batavia only rushed three and had 8 in coverage against the 2 WR’s in which both got behind the defense. Just a tough mistake.
Great explanation, for those who did not know, but if you have not seen the play, you have no idea of how truly awful this was. And the explanation on the field was even worse. It was two go routes. Nobody was blocking because it was a quick hitting play. The flag came out after the catch was made 70 yards down the field. It was awful. Nothing will ever be done about officiating if we continue to let them be bad at their job without calling them out on it.
Tailgating with Dave and Kevin mentioned it too. Said no one saw the OPI's.
Not saying you’re wrong or I don’t believe you that something that bad happened. Just trying to give some rationale as to what may have caused it. Sadly there are a fair amount of bad calls, however not sure how “calling them out” on an internet message board really improves the state of officiating. Hopefully you have no issues in your teams future games

Let us not forget, this is an East Side squad that would have had another dynamic weapon had tragedy not struck earlier this summer.
It is not as bad as how towns like San Jose (Josie), Cairo (KAYro) and Marseilles (Mar SAILS) get butchered here in Illinois.
A tragedy for sure but I really doubt as a freshman he would have had a serious impact this year with all the upper level talent they already have. He would have been more important in the upcoming 3 years.
When I watch these guys I want to jab a pencil into my temple just to take the pain away..
Sadly we will never know. I seen highlights and I agree he was very good. Withersppon is very good and was not going to lose his carries. There just wouldn't have been much room for him this year but I agree he was good enough they would have likely found him a few touches.
