Did any one catch this 30 minute episode tonight? Maybe this is a result of my age(26), that I don't remember the centennial park bombing at the 96 Olympics, and consequently I never knew of Jewell's story of being wrongfully accused and the resulting aftermath. What a terrible circumstance. Again I can't believe I never knew about this.

It was the beginning of the internet age and the big news departments were first starting to get scooped around that time. People were in too big of a hurry to be first and this was one of the big mistakes made by big time media during this new period.

Had just arrived that day

And was at a reception when the bomb went off. Needless To say that it jacked up the remainder of the Olympic events with long security lines. All in all, thankful to not have been in the park at that time. Jewell was wrongfully labeled as the perpetrator as you described. Will definitely want to watch the special to freshen my memories of the details.

I found it interesting that Jewell settled out of court with NBC, ABC, and CNN for lawsuits filed for slander. But the Atlanta Journal Constitution won their battle with Jewell because a judge ruled him as a public figure, which did not afford him a private citizens rights in that regard. And by the story's portrayal of the events the AJC was the worst player in the wrong accusations of Jewell.

That was one crazy *** night. At least I got to watch Michael Johnson run like the wind that week. When he won the 200 and 400 it was the coolest sporting moment I had witnessed.

It was wall to wall coverage for days.
And Atlanta got horrible reviews about their hosting. Many people said it was the worst Olympics ever. Don't think Atlanta will ever host again.

I lived in Atlanta at the time and had just left COPark before the bomb went off. Had no idea until I got home and turned on TV
Did not make me afraid to go back down to Olympic events but was definitely more aware of surroundings and people around me.

Mr Jewell was done WRONG....

I mean here is a guy who did his job very well that night and who's actions without a doubt saved multiple lives and serious injuries. What was his thanks? Instead of being hailed as a hero he was placed under a cloud of suspicion, had his home turned upside down by the FBI and was essentially accused by the media to sell newspapers and air time.
