Rivals has State has 11th in the SEC in average stars of our recruits, just ahead of Vandy, below Kentucky. Since Dan's last two classes have been the same, football is about to get a lot worse for us, maybe next year, but definitely in 2013 and beyond. You have to have good players. He would be crazy not to take the job. If he couldn't win in the SEC with the collection of talent he had this year, he is never going to get it done with recruting classes ranked 44th in the country (Rivals, currently) and 11th out of 12 in the SEC. Actually, it is 12 out of 14th, because Texas A&M is way ahead as well but we are ahead of Missouri. With recruiting in the mid-40s nationally, does Dan Mullen really think that he is going to ever be able to beat Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, or LSU - and now Texas A&M? Given that he hasn't yet?
I've always said that we would be gone after this year if he had the opporutunity because the talent has reached its apex at MSU this year.
In two years, we will be bemoaning the shape that Dan Mullen left this program in recruiting wise. Or, perhaps more correctly, the uninformed fans will blame the new coach for the lack of wins without recognizing that it was because of the lack of talent left by Mullen.
