It never ceases to amaze me how utterly incompetent ESPN is in pretty much everything it does. It's really just a much larger version of this TV station

Mississippi vs. Vanderbilt, when the screen clearly had Mississippi State vs. Vanderbilt.

Not taking up for them at all... but in this case you can hang it on the SEC. Mississippi State is 0-6 against the EAST this season is exactly what it says in the notes package that was sent to me from the SEC notes package following the game last night.

So it is my guess the guys at ESPN simply packaged the information sent to them by the league...you would think the league would get it right.

Slive must have put that package together. Last nights comments must not have been enough to move us off the bubble so he had to follow it up with some misinformation.

i hope we aren't letting the league put together our package for the committee.

Said something about us being tournament-worthy "to some extent". While it may be accurate, one would hope your own commissioner would be lobbying as hard as he could for every team that even had the remotest chance of making it.

He said the committee was trying to stress looking at the whole body of work. Then said if you look at Florida and Ole Miss and their whole body of work they are worthy. then added "and Mississippi State to some extent".

Now, I don't disagree our body of work isn't as good as the other two but Slive should be channeling the spirit of Billy Mays trying to sell all SEC teams to the committee.

3-4 isn't that bad vs the SEC East. That gives Us a better record against the East than Ole Miss (2-5) and Florida (3-7).

that UM should be ahead of us in any way. We had a very similar overall record, the same SEC record and we beat them twice. Yes, we swept them. I know they beat K-State back in November, but that shouldn't put them ahead of us. It's simply ridiculous. If they had split with us and finished #1 in the West, I'd give it to them, but they didn't.

That is the single reason why. Other than that they are almost identical to us. they are a little better in top 50 but we are better in top 100. Once you add in we swept them we pull ahead. But we don't have a "they beat K-State" to hang our hat on. If we could have said "we beat UK" there would be no bubble discussion for us, we would be a lock. Since we can't we are going to have to say "we beat Vandy" and hope that is enough (assuming we don't win it all but in that case there wouldn't be any bubble talk for us.

I'm convinced he's still pissed we blew his bracket up after he picked us to go to the Final 4 in 2003. He talked that team up all year...then we lost to Butler. He has bad mouthed us ever since.

Just beingfair, but if the SEC records are mostly identical, then State would get the advantage in conference for beating OM head to head.

But if you look out of conference, it is not just the K-State win that puts them in this position.Their only losses inOOC came to WVU and Villanova. Theres a big difference between losing to top 10 teams and losing to Rider and WKU. Them losing to those teams doesnt help them per se, but us losing to the teams we didhurts....alot.

Plus, they beat UTEP where we lost to Richmond.

And that is all that matters in the end. You beat the teams you are supppose to beat and try to beat the ones you arent. If you lose a game you should have won, you better win a game you were not expected to win. That is the shortfall of this MSU team.

I apologize for leaving out the ODU win. We can say that win is equal to their UTEP win. The other facts still remain. They cant help that Indiana is a dump this yeareither.

For the record, Im just looking at this from a selection committee standpoint. The Houston win was a good win, but it is not going to accout for much come selection time when they have an RPI of 145.

And I dont think Ole Miss is deserving of a bid either. Neither team is deserving, unless State runs the table.

I think college basketball is ********. We scheduled UCLA in Los Angeles. And they sucked. How were we supposed to know that? Also, we get intot the SEC/Big East Tournment probably with the assumption that we are going to play someone decent, and we get DePaul. That was out of our hands.

Also, we could have scheduled UNC and UCONN- one of those the defending NC, and they both turn out to be NIT bait this year. Again, how would we have known that last year if we would have scheduled them?

And yet, here's Ole Miss playing Kansas State- an also ran for years, and they just happen to have one of their best teams ever this year. And you can not convince me that these basketball teams are playing as well as they are now in Dec. And then they happen to play UTEP- a team that while it has some history and is hardly an annual superpower and again just happens to have a really good team.

I just don't see how it is logical to say that a team that we beat twice on the court- including once on the road is better than us because they happened to win a couple of games in December over teams that happen to be pretty good. I just don't see how that can carry more weight than an actual result on the court.

People can rip us for our schedule, but when you go out to UCLA and play people like Western Kentucky- a team that has made the NCAA's some fairly recently- that doesn't tell me that we are looking to schedule a bunch of cupcakes, which seems to be the perception.

Cue Coach34 to the rescue.

made a good point last night. He said that some credit is given for "trying" to schedule name opponents out of conference. Seems like our weak SOS might look a little better than someone else's weak SOS because we at least did try to schedule some tough opponents. Plus, the Houston win looks a little better today as well.

I'm not saying we necessarily deserve (unless we beat Vandy today)...but there's NO WAY that the Rebs deserve it ahead of us. If they had beaten us one time this year, then I'd give it to them.

Still does no good.

In fact,Houston may hurt us more in the end because they just took a spot they we could have possibly been playing for if we did have a chance at an at-large bid.
