13. Austin Hendricks
19. Justin Foscue
25. Jordan Westburg
28. JT Ginn
51. Blaze Jordan

Says Hendricks only has to play 2 years. Calls Foscue & Westburg the best middle infield combo in the country. Says Ginn had Tommy John this spring. Lists Blaze Jordan as 1B. I'd guess we lose all 5 of those guys with Blaze Jordan being the most likely be in Starkville next year.

Vandy only has 2 players listed and three commits. Arkansas has quite a crew listed; only 3 players, but 6 commits listed. Florida with 6 players and commits listed.

OM with Tyler Keenan at #92 & Servideo at #132.

That’s really interesting. This year’s draft will be so unique. I could see it being a positive or negative for either school. Who knows?

Do you think teams are more or less likely to reach in this 5 round format?

From the little bit I’ve heard, Servideo seems to be rising up draft boards, and the small sample size of this season has helped him tremendously. Because he was absolutely smashing the ball. And that would’ve cooled off at some point. I’ve also heard Keenan has a “big number” and most teams project him as at 1B only, which impacts his draftability, big time.

State getting a healthy Ginn back, and one or both of Foscue and Westburg, and whew buddy.. Mississippi college baseball will be SALTY

Best case scenario for MSU is getting one of Ginn, Hendricks or Blaze back. Foscue and Westburg are gone.

Good luck to any MLB team who rolls the dice on Ginn in a 5-round draft when he just had TJ and has another leverage year in 2021 (maybe even 2 more leverage years depending on the whole COVID-19 eligibility ruling for the spring sports athletes). There’s a whole lot that can go wrong there. But if he has a number and a team hits it, best of luck to him.

Yeah. In a 20-round draft, I'd probably take a chance on him. In a 5-round draft, I wouldn't touch him.

Probably because he didn't have conventional TJ. But carry on smart guy.

Explain an unconventional TJ. And I’m not trying to be a smartass, I’ve just never heard of a TJ surgery other than the transplant of the tendon from the forearm.

My understanding is they moved his effected nerve so that he isnt having issues. Guess we will find out if it was successful

Yea, I don't really get it. Nobody would draft Ginn high enough to give him the money he wanted coming out of HS when he was supposedly fully healthy. Now he moves up a few spots with nobody having a feel of how well he will recover from the surgery? I could see someone trying to grab him in the 3rd or 4th round but I don't see the risk/reward being worth it for a 1st or 2nd round pick. For one thing, it doesn't appear he can handle the pitch count to be a starter injury or not, so you are likely drafting a reliever when you get him.

I think he had TJ in addition to that. But i could be wrong.

That’s not TJ. He either had TJ surgery also, or he didn’t. If he did (as the ESPN link says), he’s gonna be on the shelf for much longer than if he didn’t, and statistically has a 10-20% chance of never fully recovering, and that’s without considering the nerve procedure, too. That’s going to give some teams pause before selecting him since he just had the procedure(s) and hasn’t even picked up a baseball yet so there’s no way to gauge his recovery prognosis.

Not arguing with you, just picked your post to tag on to. If I had a choice as a state fan, I would take Westburg and Foscue back and wish Ginn the best in the Bigs. In two years, he has only been solid over five once or thrice.

Pretty sure they’ve already announced that spring sport athletes get their year of eligibility back. And any senior that elects to return will not go against the scholarship number of 11.7. But, the school is also not obligated to honor their scholarship (which is kinda BS), and they can only give them up to what they were already receiving. In other words, if you have a bullpen arm that could help you, that’s a senior. If he was earning 40% of a scholarship you can’t say “ok here’s a 100% scholarship if you’ll come back, it doesn’t count anyways”. Because then that additional 60% would go against the 11.7.

But, that’s why guys like Tyler Keenan and JT Ginn might (emphasis on “might”) come back, because they won’t lose that year of leverage. Also, if they aren’t drafted in 5 rounds, they are capped at $20K in terms of signing bonus. So, we should all know as soon as the draft is over what our 2021 rosters will look like.

I agree that would be better than the inverse (keep Ginn and lose Westburg / Foscue). However, saying he was only solid that many times over 2 years is a little unfair. Its more like half a season, as that’s about the number of starts we got from him.

Another note to your point is that the way we had to manage his pitch counts didn’t always put us in the best position to win. He was very effective against Louisville in Omaha and we really needed another inning from him when his pitch count was only in the 80’s, but we didn’t do it.

This got me curious, so I went and looked at several mock drafts out of boredom today.

The Hendricks kid (who I wasn’t aware of, but is obviously a stud) seems to be a consensus Top 15 pick. Westburg was a late 1st rounder in 75% or so of mocks. Ginn a late 1st rounder in 60% or so. Foscue seemed to be a consensus mid-2nd rounder at absolute worst. The guy who was all over the place was Blaze Jordan.

MLB is the hardest draft to project, though, because the “signability” and slot values are all over the place. But, it looks like this shortened season may hurt State, more than most. That roster was (and still will be) loaded.

I saw Keenan in 2nd round in a couple mocks. But, everything coming out of OM is that he’s likely to drop, and Servideo wind up going 2nd-3rd round, surprisingly.
