Picked up my order on the way home from work. I won a bouncy ball!

IMG_20250627_170809092~2.jpg

I can report that it's better than it used to be. Is it better than the big 3 delivery players?

It beats Dominos in my area for the past few years. PJ, PH are still probably better. Marco's is definitely better.

But the real question is whether it's better than your favorite grocery frozen.

For us, no, because we doctor our Tombstone with extra ingredients from the fridge.

However, the price & convenience with 3 pizzas & pizza puffers for under $40 that we can eat on all weekend? Worth it occasionally to avoid the "figuring out supper" headache.

Pro tip: when they chuck out bouncy balls at a Mardi Gras parade get as many as you can. It’s a license to crow hop them at anyone in your sights with zero chance of getting caught.

Marco's is the nastiest Pizza there is from a restaurant....personally, I can tolerate it....I have two teenagers that will eat any restaurant pizza.....except Marco's....you must have a decent location.
I wouldn't call any of the above restaurants.

None of them compare to true pizzerias or brick oven true Italian restaurants.

The only frozen pizza I've ever had that's good was from Trader Joe's. I can't remember the name of it, but I think it said something about a deep-fried crust.

Costco's pizza by the slice (or whole) is really good, especially for the price. The ones they sell in the freezer area are not the same.

Most of the time we get Domino's thin crust, primarily because it's nearby, but it's also good. .

You got it right … we go to the Deli section of Kroger and buy one of their big a$$ pizzas; take it home, doctor it up however you choose, place in the over or put on the pellet smoker! Taste way better and less $$$

TJ garlic pesto? It's one of my favorites and has a fried crust. Also like screaming Sicilian, but better catch it on sale, or it cost as much as delivery.

The best frozen pizza is Red Baron.
Usually get Digiornno, but had a Tombstone the other day that wasn’t bad. Almost always doctor them up with fresh veggies and sometimes extra pepperoni. Used to get Papa John’s till I got fed up with their pandering.

I was born on Long Island NY and the best pizza is made there. King Umberto's is the best pizzeria and was less than 1 mile from my house. So I am a pizza snob.

I have learned to accept all these other places make something different like a McDonalds burger is not a Waygu beef burger, but you can eat it.

With that said we have recently had a newer chain build near me in the Snowden Grove area named Rotolo's. They have somehow managed to get the crust right for both thin (Neopolitan) and thick crust styles (Sicilian/ Detroit). Definitely the best chain pizza I have ever had.

Delivery pizza is Domino’s thin crust extra crispy with pepperoni, Canadian bacon, onion, green olives, and jalapeño’s.

Usually our go to but decided to try the Tombstone Pepperoni last night.
Had a neighbor over for wine that turned into putting the Tombstone in the oven around 9 PM and we all decided we needed to have a blind taste test one night between RB pepperoni and Tombstone pepperoni.
We loved the Tombstone but it wasn’t overwhelming different than RB.

Best frozen pizza is Screamin Sicilian. Period. It ain’t close. The only way to go at Little Caesars is thin crust. Not negotiable.

I like Lost Pizza and I have to admit I love me some bbq pizza from the Hut. For the frozen pizza, as a kid, I loved me some cheap *** Totino's but either they changed their recipe when they changed the shape to square or I realized as I got older what crap they are. Kind of like Chef Boy R Dee is to lasagna.

I've had the New York and Chicago pizzas. The Field Application Engineers I worked with swore theirs were the best in the country. Both were good but I liked the NY better. However, the best pizza I've had was in Milan Italy. The crust was great, the cheese wasn't homogenized and tasted head and shoulders better than anything I've had in the US.
Best pizza around here is in Columbus MS at CJ's Pizza. They make everything from scratch. If the crust isn't good then the pizza ain't worth eating.

I was always amazed at the level of we aren't even gonna attempt to make an average pizza they were able to perpetrate on the world for all those years. Do they still exist?

Worst pizza for me is like worst bourbon. The greats truly stand out. Nearly all will do the job and you really have to 17 it up to make it indigestible.

But as some mentioned. Store bought - I like Walmart’s pizza by the deli. “Chainish”- As Bruce said Rotolo’s (based out of N.O.) is good. We lost our Papa Murphy’s here but their stuffed pizzas were fantastic and worth it because two slices would fill me up and I can put down some pizza.

Johnny's Pizza House Sweep the Swamp is hard to beat. Lost Pizza has become our go to here in the Memphis area. Ciao Baby for oven fired. Pyro's is meh. PH/Dominoes/LC/PJs will not touch.

They have a Rotolo's in Orange Beach. Definitely solid but didn't stand out that much to me. Maybe I need to try it again.

Agree about Screamin Sicilian being the best frozen pizza. Home Run Inn pizza is a close second.

Bonus tip: To make any pepperoni pizza better, drizzle honey on it. If you can find a pizza with cupped pepperoni, it's even better.

Making pizza at home is fun. Buy a stone for oven or attachment for grill. I use my egg. With just a little YouTube research you’ll be making better pizza than any chain and with a little practice making respectable damn good pizza.

I was a pizza chef in the 80s

View attachment 827908
Now we're talking, I was a "chef" in the early 70's. Center crust always ended up basically raw dough and the amount of oregano in the sauce has me hating it to this day. But make and eat them I did.

Surprised you were still using "the box" in the 80's given the proliferation of chain pizza joints and premade crusts (Boboli). Chains were still relatively rare in the late 60's when I first became aware there was even such a thing as pizza. Thinking back "the box" might have been my first. Shakey's was the first I recall seeing but seems it had a bar look and vibe to it and parents weren't into such so we never went.
