As bad of a power 5 coaching performance as seen in cfb
D- probably too high of a grade
Sometimes expectation levels too high but that’s NOT the case with WVU fans
Previous 17 years prior to Browns arrival WVU ranked in top 25 16 of 17 years— not 1 time since he arrived
Next to last in scoring O and D this past year
Last in B12 in turnover margin and pts off turnovers
3-12 vs top 25 under Brown
one winning season during Brown‘s time at WVU- COVID year

I don't mean to come off as a Brown-defender, but I think in the current age, who the head coach is is becoming less relevant and how the overall program is run, in the sense of NIL and that stuff, is becoming more relevant. IOW, I don't think other coaches would have much success over the past few years at WVU either unless they could have convinced the Athletic Dept to do things differently, which the Athletic Dept is finally trying to do. (Unfortunately, so is every other school so even if WVU gets better in absolute terms, it may not matter in relative terms.)

I think there is plenty of evidence even in WVUs own conference that the HC and staff is critically important in the on field success. TCU, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Kansas, ISU recently all prove that who is at the helm matters as much as anyone or anything else. There are many coaches who could be successful now at WVU, but WVU didn’t hire them. It’s a myth that WVU is less resourced or otherwise disadvantaged above every other P5 school in the country— kind of a ridiculous argument really When you examine facts.

Why couldn't your boy Dana get WVU to next level? Bill Stewart averaged 9 wins a season. But couldn't keep WVU at the top. Rodriguez moved WVU to the top 10. Hall of Famer Don Nehlen got WVU noticed nationally.

Everybody knows you hate Brown. Everybody knows Brown has not come close to meeting expectations. There is nothing you nor I or anyone can do about it. So quit bumping your own dumbass threads and move on CFE junior.

Dana Holgorsen had WVU winning over WVUs historical win % his last five years- against the toughest schedules ever faced and starting out with a depleted roster from the previous coach, coached WVU to a conference championship, coached WVU to a historical win over a heavily favored opponent in a major Bowl, had WVU 4 pts from playing in a BIg 12 CCG, had a top 10 offense, had WVU ranked including in the playoff poll all but one year. Multiple draft picks. Numerous accomplishments.

To try to compare the debacle of Neal Brown to what Holgorsen did for WVU is laughable. Odd that people who spent over a decade and to this day bash one of the most successful coaches ever at WVU now try to hide behind their hate for Holgorsen to protect one of the worst coaching hires ever at the university.

Its not my opinion, facts show Brown to be one of the worst coaches ever and the unconnected video review above shows that the thinking college sports media world sees it also. Only a few blind nuts here are still trying to play make believe and bash others who point out the factual disaster happening now.

Idiot, Holgorsen recruited many of the players that were on that Orange Bowl team. He wasnt just handed a complete roster and he was the O coord for a bit before he was HC too.

Facts are facts- facts dont care if you suck Browns weiner or passionately hate one of the winningest coaches ever at WVU- they are still facts. It was well documented that for several seasons after entering the BIG 12 DH and co had to rebuild an underrecruited roster short numerous scholarship players. His coaching ability allowed him to instantly win more than Stewart and win the conference and win a historical major bowl and those are just facts.

What did Dana win? Third place. Dana couldn't get over the hump in Big 12 and failed miserably with good offenses. He was a drunk and narcotic dip ****. Took the 2nd best offense ever at WVU and went 8-4. Took the best offensive team and went 10-3 and 3 way tie in Big East. Got his *** kicked by Syracuse which was the only win for the Orange in the conference.

Oh boy Holgorsen won 61 games. Against a bunch of nobodies. Why did nobody else want him? You think if he was as great as you claim he would have been coaching Alabama by now.

Holgorsen is a small fish in a very big pond. Holgorsen dabbles in the transfer game more than most. In his final five years at West Virginia, the coach used half of his initial scholarship spots on transfers.

(Six hours later after throwing opening pitch of Astros game at an open-air bar across from the park when a tune booms through the speakers and elicits plenty of chuckles. It’s John Denver. Almost heaveeen, West Virginiaaaa! A smiling Holgorsen surveys the half-empty bar and then looks to his friends. “That’s my cue to leave.”)

Total Dick.

In the real world of football the biggest asset is not the x's and o's/rather it is the Jimmys and Joes. The end product is now being determined by purchased talent. Big money teams get the best products. Unless and until the rules change back and are strictly enforced, College Football is now a professional entity. Can College Basketball be far behind? Truth be known, it has been there for a while. NCAA is a useless organization.

KSu, TCU, Oregon State- several others like Tulane have not had better recruiting classes than WVU yet have excelled under head coaches that know how to coach and attract and retain talent.

Every school in the country faces NIL and transfers. Some succeed, some dont, but those that havent made changes at the HC position. Meanwhile WVU and some fans make excuses.

That seems incorrect. Recruiting was a weakness of Dana, not a strength.

Holgorsen recruited every bit as well as Brown or his predecessors at WVUs historical numbers— but he lost many quality recruits such as QBs when Lyons wouldn’t extend him twice and players opted to go elsewhere.

Can we just pin this statement at the top and refer to it as needed?

“Dana was definitely better than Stew and Brown, but that doesn’t make him anything more than a meh head coach.”

Can we all just give an “aye” to this and end this stupid *** theme?

Typical troll thread derailing, changing the subject from Brown once again to Holgorsen- a coach that has the second most wins ever in WVU history. Holgorsen didn’t put WVU football in the state it’s in now, Brown and the WVU/ Sports administration did,

Look you mental midget. What would Dana have had coming back if he had stayed?

No one.

Why?

He had no intention of staying. He put everything he had into that last season with Will Grier. He knew that was his last shot and he parlayed it into another guaranteed contract at a G5 program.

That is literally all you need to know about that guy. He had no nvestment in WVU or even on building the program. His only focus was finding another sucker to sign him on.

BTW professor…. How many coaches have had more loses at WVU than skullet?

No investment in a place that had no investment in him, negatively impacted his recruiting, slandered and libeled him repeatedly, yet he won more games for WVU than anyone in school history outside Nehlen and had WVU football winning at a higher percentage than its historical average.

Neal Brown chased off 20 plus players from that top 16 team that Holgorsen left. Several were O and D starters. Holgorsen undoubtedly would have brought in better QBs than Brown did, wouldn’t have had the worst rushing or any of the bs Brown dropped on WvU. DH certainly would have won more games as he did more than Brown every year but one.

The real question though is why are you talking about DH and trying to alter the historical factual record of his results at WVU rather than discussing the absolute debacle that Neal Brown has been and still is? Talk about a mental midget- DH has been GONE going on five seasons, and since that time Neal Brown has taken WVU football to depths not seen in nearly 50 years!

That is the issue and problem. Do you understand this?

I understand what you are trying to say but who your coach is will always be relevant. At the end of the day the goal of the players other than NIL deals is to hopefully make it to the NFL, secondary goal is to play for a program that has a shot at a national championship. If your coaching staff isn't developing players that play on Sundays you will have a tough time recruiting talent regardless of NIL deals.

Deion Sanders is a "Prime" example. Colorado has pretty much been a doormat since Kordell Stewart. Gurantee they will be competing for a Pac 12 championship next year. He is developing players. Players like Travis Hunter and Cormani Mclain aren't flipping to Colorado for NLI deals, players are following Deion because they know he can help them get to where they want to go. Same with guys like Saban, Dabo, Kyle Whittingham at Utah, Lincoln Riley..etc. Yes, it doesn't hurt that the boosters of those schools have money (Utha may not be an NIL power) but those guys are developing players and also providing an opportunity of cometing at a high level.

I will believe it when I see it. Colorado will be toast by the time October rolls around.
