Ever just feel like an idiot being a State fan?

As I sat there in Reliant Stadium yesterday playing with my iPhone because our offense was putting me to sleep, I pondered this question.

We have heard the definition of insanity yet here we are doing the same things over and over and still we expect a different outcome.

These are absolute certainties in the MSU universe:

1. One of our top players will be out for the year before or after the first game either due to injury or NCAA suspension.

2. Each and every good thing will be followed by a really bad thing. (ie long kick returns will either be called back or immediately followed by three holding calls)

3. No matter how much a kid is hyped up in the offseason...they will never live up to half the hype. (Am not referring to Chris Jones either).

4. No matter the coach at MSU, they all turn into Sylvester Croom at some point in their careers.....even before there was a Sylvester Croom.

5. We will continue to be the second most batshit insane fan base in America for following our beloved alma mater even though they make us nuts.

The weird thing is most of us in the prediction thread picked us to lose. Almost no one thought we would be shut out from the endzone. Hell we couldn't even score in garbage time but at least we did have our backup QB in the game for an excuse. Not scoring made it worse. Just one TD in the first half to finish off a good drive would have quite the effect on our fanbase.

I will give some credit to the defense for playing hard the whole game. They never totally gave in like last year. I hope like hell that we are able to continue that trend. This was one of the things I was looking for.

I wasn't expecting the offense to be so predictable and bad. Afterall, our head coach should be calling the plays because he is an offensive guru.

Yeah the problem is most of us looked at last years offense as a failed experiment. Yet it looks like we changed the oil and bought new tires expecting that to change that POS into a Corvette (hell, a Camero).

Where are our fly sweeps?
where are our reverses?
Where is our tempo on offense?
why can't our front 5 block other teams from 4?

Oklahoma States offense sputtered first half. They dropped passes, QB missed throws. If they don't do that, it would have been 35-3. Embarrassing effort everyone associated with Mississippi State offense.

History says a coach at Msu (football) ends up in our graveyard around year 6. With this being Dan's 5th year he is own target. Hope I'm wrong as I have supported and I like Dan, but the last 6 or 7 games we have been back peddling. I did see some good things the 1st quarter and half, but what really concerns me our coaches never made changes or adjustments both on offense and defense the second half. I just think we got out coached yesterday.

Watching other teams play yesterday I didn't see many teams with a 3 man rush, also in today's era, you pretty much need a QB who is mobile and is accurate with short passes.

It's early and the sun came up, I hope we make adjustments for the rest of the year. I say platoon Russell and Dak.

It's a simple answer, but tough to execute. We keep blaming coaches/scheme/athletic departments/etc., booing players, turning our back on the program, bitching, going deer hunting instead of going to games, and so on. We are blaming the wrong things. History repeats itself.

Our problem is a small fanbase without money, located in a small town in a small state that isn't populated. And add to that an inferiority complex. We can live with all that other ****, but we have to find a way to increase our fanbase and donations. That's it, that's the answer.

We need to get all in like Auburn. They are the blueprint for us, but we have a smaller margin of error. The small amount of fans we do have can't even unite behind MSU. We fight amongst each other for everything - radio shows, webpages, etc. Competition and business is one thing, but we all need to realize that the betterment of MSU is the #1 principle, and everyone succeeds if they get behind that.

But to answer your question, yes, I feel like an idiot for wasting my time being a State fan when I see the other fans we are working with. Just extreme amounts of negativity that amount to NOTHING. I know it's fun and yada yada to be internet cool, but come on, what does it really help to trash everything? It goes way beyond 6pack too. It's facebook, twitter, etc.

yeah, i was there when we had a top 10 team and lost to xavier....the stansbury under-achieve and excuse machine was in its prime back then. the talent was made it so unbearable. damn...why AM I a state fan? i must really hate myself.

In my time at State I saw two bowl wins (Liberty and Gator), SEC Tourney Championship in basketball, Super Regional in baseball. I can think of worse sports programs than the one we have for sure. Unfortunately, despite all of MSU's recent athletic success, our fan base lives and dies by the football team, which at times has shown glimmers of hope for a championship. I felt a little ashamed in church this morning when our preacher gave a sermon on humility and counting our blessings. Not just about my reactions to the football team, but other things in my life as well.

THIS. This is what all you ******** screaming about Stricklin using marketing too much don't understand. We will NEVER win on a large scale until we have the base of support that the large scale winners have. The best and easiest way to do it is marketing. Especially in a league as tough as the SEC where wins against ranked teams are hard to come by. Stricklin knows the recipe to success here at State. He did it with Baylor basketball. He was at Auburn during Turberville's tenure. He knows what it takes to win at these places.

I have lived in Iowa for the last 9+ years since leaving MSU.

I could follow Iowa or Iowa State, but **** they are just as frustrating as MSU, in both football and basketball.
Seriously, ISU lost to Northern Iowa and Iowa lost to Northern Illinois.
Between the 3 teams, I follow the best one. That's rough.

I grew up in Tuscaloosa. Live with LSU fans. Yes.

I could so easily justify rooting for Alabama and no one would really question it. All i have to say is "well, I grew in Tuscaloosa, but just went to Miss State." I could instantly go from expecting us to get our **** kicked in every Saturday to rooting for my team in a National CHampionship. I could instantly root for a team that drives my roommates crazy by beating them. But alas, I cannot.

Dawgpile saw some football back in the day. Some of it was fun to watch. Some, not so much but he got to see some of the last of the Jackson days and tailgating at Millsaps was fun too but thank goodness it's all on campus now.
