Ever wonder why basketball players are called "cagers"?.....

Its because back in the 20s and 30s, basketball courts were surrounded by wire cages to separate the fans and the players. Now, part of the reason for this is the out of bounds rule back then awarded possession to whomever could get control of the ball - so a ball going out of bounds could result in a number of players tumbling into the crowd and fighting for possession. But fans also amused themselves by throwing things at the players, or burning them with cigars.

So, anyone who claims that the scene in Starkville last night was the worst they have ever seen.....well, they just haven't been around long enough.

I hate when old people talk about how things were different back then as if they lived in an innocent world that didn't abuse women and children and minorities and drop nuclear bombs on people.

When I read this, I immediately pictured Vince McMahon. XFL sucked, maybe the XBA is worth a shot? It would likely be the worst thing on television. But, it could have a "train wreck" effect. I'm sure Spike TV would give it a chance...

There could be a big scrum for the ball, but once someone had possession the refs would break things up and they would have an inbounds play. Whoever came up with the current rule was a freakin' genius, and probably saved the game.
