you lose your advantage over the defense when you dont have a mobile QB...keep that in mind over the next couple of years

Whatever example he choses to use to make his point is applicable to everything and anything and completely beyond any reproach.

and I don't think that they ran a whole lot of zone read option. Hawaii and SMU under June Jones didn't seem to have a problem lighting up the scorebaord either. Or Cincinnati under Brian Kelly.

You don't have to run the zone read option every play to put up a lot of points on the scoreboard.

in his 2 seasons...Brantley and Russell cant do that...aGAIN, the QB has to be mobile

If Leak was so good why was he taken out in short yardage and goalline situations by a true freshman MOBILE QB????

Just sayin....

**edited to add**- Alex Smith averaged 12 carries a game at Utah- thats not a Pass Spread- thanks for proving my point

Heck, Kentucky went from a horrible team to a competitive team with Leach and Mumme. And they didn't have a great defense at all.

And Tech's problem against Ole Miss in the Cotton Bowl wasn't scoring. It was that they couldn't STOP Ole Miss from scoring.

That's what Leach never got- he always felt like he could put 56 on everyone. The reality is he couldn't, and they would lose a game here and there.

You put Leach's offense with a good defense, and we'll be pretty good oursleves.

Florida used a two QB system very effectively. Seems that the offensive co-ordinator at the time that it was a good system...required the defense to prepare for two styles of QB play...something familiar there.

Smith ran the ball effectively, not great, not good. I think Mullen would describe Tyler as less than effective but serviceable. He ran well enough at MHS that it did not dissuade Mullen from wanting him badly as a recruit. Tyler can get you some positive yards if he has too..don't sell him short.

I think Mullen is slowly but surely getting Russell acclimated to the speed of the game so that he can switch back and forth between the two, according to what the defense is least suited to stop. I think as long as Relf is here, he and Russell will share snaps.

Mullen is nobody's fool..I think he knows what he's trying to do.

1. Fla used Tebow because Leak and their offense was struggling early in the season in short yardage and on the goalline. Having a mobile QB in those situations made them much more effective. Tebow wasnt getting snaps between the 20's until garbage time.

2. Smith ran the ball very well. You really need to check his stats. Russell and Brantley arent nearly as good as he was running the rock.

3. No doubt that is what Mullen is doing. And I think Mullen is an outstanding coach. He knows way more than I do. He is going to win at State if he stays. But I think if we move to a pass first Spread offense in 2011 or 2012, it's going to be a big mistake. SEC defensive lines wont allow them to be successful. Knowing what you are trying to do and being successful at what you are trying to do are two different things. Duke knows what they are trying to do- so does Vandy

but he can't take sacks by not moving around and he has to be at least a 50% passer and not look like he just figured out that a QB can use the modern device called the forward pass. I like Relf and could care less who is QB as long as we win, but for all the drops, there were some incredably horrific passes that were no where near the WR. We are going to struggle against good defenses if he can't be accurate on any paas but the fade.

Florida's offense has some serious issues, but none of them are because their QB isn't a great runner.<div>
</div><div>First, they have to get the snap figured out. It is completely killing their rhythm on offense. Second, their play-calling lacks creativity, and it doesn't get their playmakers the ball in open space. They are trying to run Demps on sweeps when the defense can see it coming from a mile away. Third, and most importantly to me, they have filled their roster with guys who are 5'10 and 5'11 and fast and that's it. They have virtually no one at RB who can get tough yards inside and they have no big targets at WR who can run routes, get open, and catch the ball.</div><div>
</div><div>They're not struggling because Brantley is playing QB. They're struggling because Brantley is playing QB and they don't have the pieces around him he needs to have success. Even Tebow struggled much more last year than he ever had. Why? Because they lacked creativity and had no tough runner other than him and no good targets for him to throw the ball to. We definitely need to be careful of this. As crucial as guys like Heavens, Bumphis, Perkins, and Singleton are in this offense, we need to continue to get guys like Vick Ballard, Anthony Dixon, and Joe Morrow. The more options you have in any offense, the better off you are.</div><div>
</div><div>It just doesn't make sense to have an NFL QB dumping the ball off to 5'9, 170-pound guys.</div>
