When I was @ Millsaps in 1980, State was our team after they beat the big 3 plus 1 that year.

Some of you 17ers are just unbelievable. I'm an MSU alumnus, and I have no problem whatsoever saying that the buzzards are the best team in the state this year. They won 11 games, I don't give a 17 what conference they're in. I recognize talent when I see it, and Davis and Lampley could play for a lot of SEC teams. Oh and for those of you that say we're better b/c we beat UAB and they didn't, have a look at this:

MSU>UAB>So Miss>SMU>TCU>Boise State>UGA

...so by that logic we're better than a team that beat us by 2 touchdowns. GTFO.

I'm not knocking them. They beat the people on their schedule, but I'm definitely not going to say they are a better team than we are.

I never said they only had 2 SEC caliber players, I just named the 2 that I thought stood out the most. We should be kicking ourselves for not getting Lampley. Nobody knew about Davis, so I'm not as distraught about him. And I think it's funny that when they beat a top 10 team, that team is "overrated." Yeah, they lost to 2 bad teams, but they beat some decent ones too. We, on the other hand, didn't lose to any bad teams (depending on how you view Auburn), but we didn't beat any great ones either. I'm just tired of all our butt hurt fans claiming to be better than an 11-win team. Talk trash when we beat them in 2014. In the meantime, they won a conference title this year, they are ranked, and we are not. Gotta tighten up next year. They are good. If you can't admit that, then you're just a dumb 17.

to the point where you can say they are better than State. I think if we played - it would be a good game. I say we are evenly matched.

and let me tell you they ARE talented. But at the same time the Houston team that played tonight reminded me SO much of the Ole Miss team that Tubberville coached in his last game it was stupid. They must know that Sumin's gone. Besides they are TERRIBLE on defense! #97 a DE for Houston was in the A gap untouched almost EVERY time that USM ran the read option with Lamp and Davis. As Davis read it wrong and went with he dive to Lamp, look how many times 97 missed that same tackle like at least 8 times. 3 on 1 drive in the 4th qtr. Houston was outcoached and outmuscled by USM, NO doubt! But we ARE talking about a team that had NO defense. Now on the other hand, USM's D played thier *** off! It was like they KNEW what Houston was running before they snapped the ball. Gotta give it to the D for USM though. They were WELL prepared and coached! But let's not get carried away, they aren't in the SEC either.

By your logic:

USM lost to 2 bad teams, and MSU didn't lose to any bad teams...Since USM lost to bad team, but MSU didn't then USM is better than MSU??
and
USM beat some decent teams, but MSU didn't beat any great teams...Since USM beat some decent teams, and MSU didn't beat any great teams then USM is better than MSU??
so
USM is better than MSU??

I don't follow your logic...

I would really like to win the SEC Championship so we can go to the Liberty Bowl and maybe meet up with your C-USA Championship winning Buzzaeds, oh wait...

finished 16-0. Using your logic of dismissing the level of competition they would be the best in the state.

..they covet the 'wins' over the 'Memphis &Martins' of the world. Let's give Southern their due, it is not just that they beat Houston but the convincingly way they did, crushed them!

To me, beating an overrated Houston that barely beat some bad teams is not a GREAT win that overcomes losing to really bad teams like Marshall and UAB. Especially when we know that it only took ONE half of us playing decent football to blow out UAB.

USM's record with our schedule:

Memphis - W
Auburn - L
LSU - L
La Tech - W
Georgia - L
UAB - L
South Carolina - L
Kentucky - L (USM lost to Marhsall, Kentucky is better than Marshall)
UT Martin - W
Alabama - L
Arkansas - L
Ole Miss - W

4-8 (1-7)

There is absolutely no way USM is better than MSU. I agree with DS that I think it would be a good game, but after the first half, I think USM would taper off and MSU would run away with it. The schedule matters more than just the W/L's. Playing the two teams that will meet in the NC game matters. Playing a SEC schedule puts "wear and tear" on the players moreso than a CUSA schedule. USM would be dilapidated by the time they made it to the Alabama game.

It's laughable that USM fans or any "State" fans would think otherwise.
