We were last place last year.

We still don't have a proven quarterback.

We don't have a proven head coach.

I don't see any reason we should not be predicted last.

I think Mullen will need to brush up on our tradition and at least give the "win one for the ......" speech!

Predictions are based on what's known. Mullen is an unknown quantity. Yeah, he has a lot of upside potential, but it's still unknown.

We still have Crxxm's talent and our schedule is possibly the toughest in our history. None of the 4 home games are even remotely winnable barring one of the biggest upsets in our history, and while the 4 road games are very managable we won't be the favorite in any of them. If we go 2-6 in the SEC I'll be pretty pleased all things considered.

I think us, AU, and AR could all be a toss up. There is going to be a big difference in what team is 4th and 3rd. LSU, Bama and UM are on a different level in the West this year.

If you want to get into tiebreakers, the head to head was split with Arkansas beating Auburn who beat MSU who beat Arkansas.

And if you go to the next tiebreaker, it's division record. Arkansas was 2-3. Auburn and MSU were both 1-4. So that makes it a two team tiebreaker between MSU and Auburn. Auburn has head to head in that one, so technically Arkansas would be 4th, Auburn would be 5th, and you would be 6th, if they used tiebreakers for that.

But we know that they don't use tiebreakers other than to determine who goes to the championship game, so you technically tied for 4th (last) with Arkansas and Auburn.

wrong on this one but I see absolutely no way that we win 6 games. This is going to be a season of serious learning for our team and hopefully they'll learn something and get better.

If we get over 4 wins I'll be completely shocked.

with 6 wins, but I don't expect anything more than 5 at most. 4 winnable games and then a toss up here and there or a skull dragging we will see.

JSU, Auburn, Vandy, UK, Houston, MTSU, Ark all fall in the 'winnable' category for me right now. Additionally, if this coach watches some field on how to play against the option we might have a shot at GaTech with some luck and motivated players. While it would not surprise me if we were 3-9 or worse, right now I think we have more than 4 'winnable' games. We will need to win on the road against the easier part of our schedule...that is what will probably kill us. However, upsets happen and we will have 1 home upset. I think 6-6 is a reasonable prediction. Yeah...it's probably a bit optimistic, but it is June. I really hate the fact that we made zero real progress in the past 5 years.

I just don't like the fact most 'winnable' games are all on the road and then we've never seen Mullen coach a down at the helm. Like many I just don't see how Mullen could be a bad coach and he's surrounded himself with a good coaching staff that has a lot of experience and success at the college level. But will it translate on to the field the way we want? I'm keeping my optimism for the win/loss column low until I've seen Mullen impress/succeed in big games. I am very optimistic although for this upcoming football season knowing that we have a new coach and an awesome home schedule. All in all we lack too much talent and depth to field a team that will guarantee big things. And I think 5-6 wins falls in the 'big things' category.

crooms left us with more talent than when he got here. could you imagine how badass mullen would have to coach if jackie had been the previous coach?

However, upsets happen and we will have 1 home upset.
I think its a tall order to say that we WILL have one upset. LSU, Florida, Alabama, etc... would be some of the biggest upsets I can remember when you consider where our team is and where those other teams are. So I can't agree with you that "6-6 is a reasonable prediction," because it isn't. 6-6 would be more luck than crxxms had in his 8-5 season, way more luck. No I think 4-8 is more realistic, anything more would be close to unbelievable.

Btw, I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see it happening.

Heck, I don't think that's a given. Until we start recruiting and signing some decent OL we are going to have a hard time scoring points on just about anyone we play. I say we will win 2 games. We might beat Vanderbilt for our second win.

I think we will upset someone at home this year. It's not a stretch to believe it will happen.

We better do something this yr bc next year's schedule won't be any easier (its the SEC)... in 2010, we go on the road to LSU, Bama, Florida, and Ole Miss(at best we might win one of those if we're lucky)... The home schedule isn't as hard as this year with So Carolina, Auburn, Ark, Kentucky, a homecoming oponent, and a powder puff... we also play Houston on the road which at this point is no gimme... But I guess we'll see how we fair this year...

I think overall the team will be more exciting because of the next offense and determined coaching staff... This team is in by far the best shape in almost a decade and we're going to throw the ball reguardless if we have QB or not... it will click at some point... I predict 5-7 or at best 6-6 with wins over Jax State, Vandy, and Middle TN plus two out of the three against Ga Tech, Houston or Kentucky.

But I haven't been this excited about a football season in a while at least we SHOULD look great against Jackson St. on Sept 5th! get excited! and as they say spread the fun!
