We can structure it to get around that. Its how the ncaa views it is the bigger concern. But im guessing they dont care

No, they don't. If you can come up with a scholarship to put a baseball player on, as far as I know, the NCAA doesn't care. Its the governing body of the school and the State that have to stay compliant with only offering scholarships that are available for to the student general population.

The NCAA just needs to allow every team to distribute 15, not 11.7, scholarships. That incremental increase could make a world of difference

I think you gotta shoot for 20 and hope for 18. It takes 9 to play, plus you need 8-10 pitchers for your rotation, 18 at least gives you an opportunity to build a roster and recruit to need.

I've wondered if we just started to give out leadership scholarships to be the equivalent of a full ride if the NCAA would care and I'm also guessing that they don't. I'm assuming that we don't with every player since I hear stories about guys like Mangum having to walk on for two years and Ashcraft leaving the team over their scholarship money.

That's what I'm saying! Just do it. Fund a leadership scholarship program with cigar boy money (or even our endowment, it won't take THAT much money), give more than half of the scholarships to regular students, and by random chance give the rest to baseball players.

Give 11 athletic scholarships to 11 players and give another 16 players (to get to 27) or 24 players (to get to 35) regular academic, regular need-based, and new leadership scholarships, and you have your 27- (or 35-) player fully funded roster. If we needed to raise money for the new scholarship program we could probably get the money in a few months.

I honestly would be more likely to donate something like this within my means than buy a season ticket because of my work/life schedule. I can't fund a full scholarship but I could do 500 dollars a year and be happy to know I helped out one of our players and program.

One thing I've heard is that so many of these sports lose money that it's difficult to even find the scholarships we have.
