is pissed off at Croom and Woody, and rightfully so. But, what about the other offensive coaches? JB Grimes has yet to produce anything better than a below average o-line in five years. I watched this guy "coach" on o-line that was getting whipped and needed someone to get in their face. Didn't do it one time. Just wrote some stuff on a board and left. What about Pat Washington the WR's coach? Our WR's can't run routes, block, and even worse catch. It seems like this is an area that has regressed since last year which is puzzling since Jaymel Smith and Bell were solid last year and should have built upon last season. People can fault Carroll's arm, and that has some validity, but ALL of our WR's look lost whenever they run a route over 15 yards. It's pitiful. Rockey has done an OK job with the RB's. To be fair, they have no line in front of them and have some injuries. At the same time, when they were healthy, I again see no improvement.

The simple fact is we need an ENEMA!

Of course, I think the greatest challenge is going to be getting Croom to get his hands out of the offenses cookie jar and just let someone coach the offense- just like he does with the defense. Croom probably will never realize that he would be a LOT more successful if he would just basically act as a CEO and let his coordinators do their job instead of trying to call every play with his buddy. In fact, I think that's exactly what's happening here. We all wonder who is calling the plays Woody or Croom- I think they do it together. Maybe that's why it takes us 25 seconds to call a play. They probably can't agree on which 5 yard curl to run on 4th and 15. This way, if the offense sucks he can cover for his buddy and at the same time when Venus lines up with Mars and we actually have a good game on offense, he can give the credit to Woody. Good luck Greg. I think this is going to be a LOT tougher than anything Polk did. At least Polk got out of the picture all together. With Sly, not so much.

1. Replace every offensive coach on staff.
2. Croom to give the new coordinator free reign to choose the offense, run the offense, and hire the offensive assistants.

That won't happen, but short of firing Croom, it's the minimum we need to have happen.

One thing Croom is an expert in is runningbacks, and if he's comfortable with Felker at RB coach, then I'd keep him.</p>

how our receivers completely ran into each other on the infamous 4th and 15. Great job CRXXM.

my head was buried in my hands as soon as I realized that we were going for it until the play ended.

we are enabling Felker. It's almost like we're saying, "We're sorry that we fired you, we didn't want to hurt your feelings, hey! how about you coach running backs for us! That will make everyone happy!"

would go back and hire a RB coach - who MSU fired as Head Coach 17 years ago.

If find it hilarious, LT's dumb *** did not say anything to Croom about this back when Felker's hiring went down. Sort of like: "um, so, you did know we fired this guy like 17 years ago right Sly?"

Of course maybe Croom could not find anybody better.

Once again and again, Croom's competency is still pending on a broad range of issues and across a lot of levels.

Rockey came into a terrible situation and left us in great shape. I remember reading a Cleveland piece where he wrote something equivalent to, "in private, State coaches were amazed at all the talent on hand." This was after Jackie beat Texas in '91 and how it didn't really come as a surprise to the State coaching staff.

Say what you will about some of Felker as head coach, the man is a good recruiter and a good position coach.

I think Croom is similar to Rock in a lot of ways. They're both good guys. They're both good with parents and, thus, can recruit. But, they both struggle with game day decisions and they both have a side of the ball where they have problems. Croom can't get us to move the ball, Rockey couldn't get us to stop anybody. And, in the end, Croom will probably be like Felker in one other way - he'll leave the program better than he found it.

if I remember right, it was actually Jackie that hired him back first. Wasn't Felker a part of the "5 former head coaches" we hired in 2003?

What a pile of crap that turned out to be.

Rockey is one of our own. Sure, he sucked as a head coach. But just because you suck as a head coach doesn't make you suck as a coach period. Look at Crxxms. He's a 17ing terrible HC, worse than Felker, but I think we all agree he's a hell of a RBs coach. ****, he got good seasons out of Natrone Means and got Ahman Green to stop fumbling every other carry. Joe Lee Dunn was another guy that sucked when given a chance as HC, but was a great DC until everyone caught up with him and he was too stubborn to make adjustments. I could go on and on. Bottom line, Rockey has shown he's a pretty damn good RB coach. No need to rip one of our own when he's actually doing a pretty good job, even if he failed at another job previously. Because right now, he's doing just fine, as far as I'm concerned.

Seriously. I don't think you rehire people that do **** like that. Well, he could be a good janitor...Who gives a ****? Hire another good janitor instead.

One of our own. I don't give a **** if he is my blood brother. It matters not. Our own led us to a 1-10 season. You guys all can't stand Croom. At least (to this point, anyway) he hasn't one only one game in a season.

If you want to know why I can't stand him, there it is. You might not agree, but you won't convince me otherwise, so if I could be spared the reasoning meant to sway me, it would be appreciated.

for a lot of what we did in 1991 and 1992. He said that Felker had left our program in a lot better shape than a lot of people realized.

...as he was then Coordinator of Football Operations.

The five head coaches were:

Sherrill
Dunn
Hallman
Cooper
Blake

Campbell may have also counted in the roster, albeit as a DII head coach.

....in 1988 Felker was 37 years old and had two years of HC experience. He had never been anything other than a position coach on any level at the time. He took the job when nobody else would and set the table for Sherrill. Presently, he has the HC experience, experience as an OC at a number of places, and had another 20 years of learning from other coaches. Yeah, I would like to see Al Borges or etc. However, no need to throw Rockey under the bus. Because if he was promoted again, it would be the university's decison and you can not blame him for taking the job.

I specifically remember articles about how Jackie had brought "Five former head football coaches" onto his staff for the 2003 season, and we would all benefit from this great fortune on the field. Their experience would help him turn the trainwreck around.

As best I can recall, that Fab Five consisted of Ron Cooper, John Blake, Rocky Felker, Morris Watts, and Curley Hallman.

That really turned out well for us, didn't it.

I flipped through that whole coaches section of the 2003 media guide and it never crossed my mind that Dunn wasn't in there.

inept for a while now. Same with receiver position. They all need to go. I would keep Rockey, however. I believe he is a benefit in recruiting and just because he was a failure as a head coach doesn't mean he can't cut it as an assistant. He definitely set Jackie up for a good start and should be given credit for that. He is an asset to the program.

I'm not sure that Bear Bryant could have won with that bunch. They were mostly losers in every sense of the word.

"That dumb as a rock SOB went tech and ten. We should ban him from campus forever." - porkchop

Wow - stay classy, guys. Rumor is that Felker finally came back in '02 after Jackie and LT had begged him to come back for years. Wonder why that was?

Maybe because Jackie knows firsthand how much he had done for the program when he left the pantry full for Jackie's success. He has always been able to bring top MS talent to campus and continues to.

Maybe because LT knew that Felker could with fundraising... since he is the most beloved player in our history.

Don't bash a man that consistently says, "I just want to help in whatever way I can."

Can we get a new ruling to prohibit the name from being used here? I do wonder where the guy is now though. Hopefully it's a career in sales since he somehow managed to get Sherrill and Spurrier to both buy his bs. And who could forget Sparky? The guy took more flack from fans than ever before for not having a good offense while we were awesome on defense (sound familiar?) but he's Bill Walsh compared to the nonsense we're currently enduring.
