Real journalism essentially died many years ago. It first started (based on my lifetime with Water Chronkite). He lied to the American people about Viet Nam, blatantly, unadulterated lie about the Tet Offensive. The war was essentially over. Chronkite was probably proud of that lie.

Much earlier a NY Times reported loved Joseph Stalin. His name was Walter Durante. He won a pulitzer for his reporting on Stalin. The only problem, it was a lie. Stalin killed up to 80,000,000 of his own people and Durante hailed him as a hero. Why, Durante loved communism.

The main stream media lied about the traitor, Alger Hiss, they simply loved communists, especially communist spies.

Pro-Hiss Media

From that steamy August day in 1948, when Chambers identified Hiss as a Communist before HCUA, and right on through the first Hiss trial (ending in a hung jury) and the second trial (which found him guilty of lying when he said he had not engaged in espionage), the media covering the real-life drama made little if any attempt to hide their hostility to Chambers and their apologia for Hiss.

After the jury finally reached its verdict that Alger Hiss had lied when he said he had not engaged in espionage, the quisling’s immediate reaction was that he had been done in by “a gallivanting drunken press,” notwithstanding that the press table throughout the case was something of a virtual cheering section for the man.

Whittaker Chambers was painfully aware that if the media rather than a court of law, were to judge the case, he wouldn’t stand a chance. His ten years as a senior editor at Time magazine had prepared him for that.

Communists at the magazine had spread ugly rumors about him and had tried to change his copy to make it more favorable to the Soviet Union, the Communist Chinese, and of course, home-grown Reds. Research material he had gathered for stories to which he had been assigned would mysteriously disappear just as he was up against deadline.

Then, of course the Rosenberg traitors. Some in the press did a good job, others were sycophants to these communist traitors:

https://pjmedia.com/ronradosh/2016/...edia-ethel-rosenberg-was-completely-innocent/

Fast forward to Dan Rather, perhaps the king of fake news. CBS actually produced fake documents to indict President Bush just prior to the election in a desperate attempt to influence the outcome. We all know the real out come.

NBC ran fake edits of a 911 call from George Zimmerman. They didn't stop there, they doctored police photos to make it seem as if Zimmerman sustained no injuries during the confrontation.

Dateline NBC rigs a truck to blow up.

Jason Blair wrote blatantly false articles for the NY Times.

Coverage of the Tea Party movement was full of lies. From fake guns at rally's.

The proto-Tea Party gun scare: There was a lot of fake reporting surrounding the Tea Party movement. One of the most memorable examples was MSNBC breathlessly warningabout “white people showing up with guns” at the 2009 health care reform rallies that were precursors to the Tea Party. The segment included a great deal of hyperventilation about the alleged anger of white people over “a black person being president,” and the commensurate rise of “hate groups.”

MSNBC illustrated its claim with footage of an armed man at a rally after President Obama’s speech to the VFW in Phoenix, Arizona. The footage was edited to conceal that the man was, in fact, black.

Oceans of ink were spilled over the following years about how the health care protesters, and later the Tea Party, were dangerous. Assertions about armed racists stalking the fringes of the movement were a common element of this caricature.

How can we possibly leave out Brian Williams and the myriad of lies he told.

There are a myriad more examples. Fake news has been around a long, long time. It is now being portrayed in the media as solely a right wing plot. LOL. The media is thoroughly corrupt. Honesty in the media died long, long ago due to human frailty. Reporters frequently believe what they want to believe and slant their stories accordingly. Same with editors.

Will you list all of the stories that they got right? or just focus on the few that they got wrong? Your schtick is old.

These are huge stories. Some involved blatant fraud. Some involved blatant lies and distortions to achieve a certain outcome. Fake news has been around a long, long time.

Today's media is corrupt. They cover only the news they wish to cover. They slant the news intentionally. One party is always the beneficiary, the other always on the short end. Look at media coverage of Presidential races. Every post race analysis shows the same thing. More favorable coverage of the liberal candidate. This is not by accident.

Far from stupid, but more importantly do you dispute any of the lies I pointed out by the media? Blatant lies. Sometimes actual fraud.

It seems rather than disputing the points I make, you choose to personally attack. That is the preferred choice of liberals who can't debate the facts.

Obama lies:

1. Keep your doctor
2. Keep your plan
3. Keep your hospital
4. Save $2,500 per family per year
5. ISIS JV Team
6. Benghazi due to video
7. Plenty of shovel ready jobs in our stimulus
8. Unemployment never goes above 8% with our stimulus
9. Assad, you better not use chemical weapons or we will act
10. Most transparent administration in history
11. I don't want to pit red American against blue America
12. We reject the use of national security letters to spy on citizens who are not suspected of a crime.
13. We will close the detention camp in Guantanamo Bay, the location of so many of the worst constitutional abuses in recent years
14. Allow Americans to buy their medicines from other developed countries if the drugs are safe and prices are lower outside the U.S.
15. We reject sweeping claims of ‘inherent’ presidential power.
16. Will eliminate all income taxation of seniors making less than $50,000 per year. This will eliminate taxes for 7 million seniors — saving them an average of $1,400 a year– and will also mean that 27 million seniors will not need to file an income tax return at all.
17. If we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home, we will end this war. You can take that to the bank.
18. Will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.
19. The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.
20. We’ve got to spend some money now to pull us out of this recession. But as soon as we’re out of this recession, we’ve got to get serious about starting to live within our means, instead of leaving debt for our children and our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren.

I could go on and on. Nice try.

I questioned your "findings" and you ignore me, so who is the chicken ****? I'll ask you again, since you want to go back to Cronkite, tell us about the millions of times that the media has gotten their stories right as compared to the few to the contrary that you mention. You love to point out a few instances over the years where journalism mistakes were made accidentally or on purpose but those are the exception. Everyone now knows that politics has crept into the news rooms and most news may have some political slant one way or the other today and that's nothing new. The right wing owns talk radio and right wing blogs sure seem to way out number any left wing blogs which honestly I've never seen linked here. There is right and left news bias out there and I don't see that genie getting put back in the bottle anytime soon so people just need to critically listen to any source and figure out for themselves what's really going on. You love the word "corrupt" but if you're going to use it, apply it to both sides but the use of the word is just a cop out and is another use of a broad brush term that you like to use to simplify a complicated world that you struggle to make sense of. Does the "corrupt media" get together and decide what they are or are not going to cover? is there some secret email group? just how do they coordinate their corruptness? Also, just because some pet interest of yours is not front page news everyday is not some conspiracy plot by the "corrupt media" to cover something up, there are just actual real news stories that are more important. That's an easy one. Actually I have no interest or the time to devote to "debating" this with you. You may point out some bias (so can I) and media mistakes (so can I) but that does not constitute a broader conspiracy that you allege. Your best bet is just to screw on your tin foil hat and stay in your bunker.

20. We’ve got to spend some money now to pull us out of this recession. But as soon as we’re out of this recession, we’ve got to get serious about starting to live within our means, instead of leaving debt for our children and our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren.

I could go on and on. Nice try.

Ha, ha.. so now it's just keeping score. Nice try yourself. You can't refute that DJT's lies are supported by Conservative media, so run up the count from the opposing view point. That's rich, and your hypocrisy. Only one side can be blamed, right?

The media is manipulated from both sides of the aisle, that was the point of the OP, which you tried to bastardize, your own manipulation of facts. I'm not denying any of the media misinformation issues you posted, and you can't deny the ones I posted either.

But the original point is to use responsible journalism, from both sides, as a guide to understand all points of an issue as opposed to your view of only taking one viewpoint into account. You have exposed yourself as other than what you purport yourself to be.

Will you list all of the stories that they got right? or just focus on the few that they got wrong? Your schtick is old.
Read about operation Venona. Hollywood communist weren't the problem, communist in Roosevelt's cabinet were bigger problems.

What debate is it that you want to start?

Can't you read? The OP linked to an article claiming that "true journalism" is the key to defeating fake news. I pointed out that "true journalists" have been using fake news for years to achieve their agendas. I gave example after example and some very, very big example. Fake news did not start in 2016. It started a long, long time ago.

Donald Trump lies. Have you read none of my posts? My God. I have called Trump an idiot, a narcissist, an egomaniac, a person with little to no self control, etc. I don't like the man. My support is for his policies, at least most of them.

But when you call out Trump for lying, I am going to point out Obama's constant lying and also the fact that people like you defended him every step of the way. So did the journalists. They fawned over him. They never vetted him in 2008. They lied about Clinton being a racist.

And my argument is that we don't have responsible journalism anymore. Haven't had it for years. Fake news did not start in 2016. It started long ago and has only gotten worse. American belief in the honesty of the media is at record lows for a good reason, they cannot be trusted.

Just because there is some bias (both right and left) in the media doesn't mean that they can't be trusted, you just have to look at things with a critical eye (if you're smart enough to do so). Besides where are you going to get your news? from the Capitol Pundit? Brietbart? Infowars? (way, way more biased sources) if you consider those better sources then we certainly have nothing left to discuss.

Bias has lessened in the media and been replaced by corruption. And while this happens on both sides, the media is overwhelmingly liberal. It happens far more on the left because of sheer numbers.

I get my news from multiple sources. Multiple websites. Multiple newspapers. I try and get some balance since I know all of them have an agenda.

There are a few media outlets that play in straight. C-Span, for example. The Hill is pretty good. Business publications are pretty straight, although not all of them (WSJ is liberal on hard news and conservative on opinion pages, for example).

There's your problem, your conspiracy theory clearly stated. Acknowledging you have a problem is the first step in recovery.

He's got you there Paxx, every time someone points out something bad about something you like.....you looooove to make the argument about how much good versus the bad. So what now?

Moe landed that one. I'm just glad some people are calling Paxx out for his shift "intellectually dishonest" hypocrisy of strategy in his "debating".

I've had him on ignore for quite awhile now ... everything that's being pointed out now was pointed out before as well. And it will be pointed out many times in the future too, I'm sure.

I don't even have to see his posts to know who people are talking about/to.

So true, it's like punching the time clock here. Patx posts his normal BS full of conspiracy lunacy and then others give him a reality check or try to then just do it all over the next day.

Please show me where I defended Obama.

And there is responsible journalism available, if one chooses to find it and understand it.

Look, my point is, and particularly with you, that media bias is not one sided. Yet the Conservatives and Republicans want to portray all reporting as biased and all biased reporting as Liberal; that's just not the case.

We got into it the other day about other 1st Amendment issues and I want to apologize for my comments to you. The underlying issue is that it is not only the responsibility of "the media" to report on the government as a means of keeping it in line, it is the responsibility of the citizens to seek out more than one viewpoint on any issue to make an informed decision. That is what the article referenced is saying, and I think rightly so.

No conspiracy theory at all. Facts. The media had an agenda in 2008 to elect Obama. They did not vet him. They claimed Billy Clinton was a racist. They tore Hillary apart, all to elect Obama. Left on left corruption.

The media decides which stories to run. I can give you example after example of them choosing stories they like, that suit their agenda and stories they don't like.

For example, the old news adage is if it bleeds, it leads. Well, we had a trial for the largest mass murderer in our history, Kermit Gosnell. He cut off the heads of babies born alive during botched abortions.

Amazing and I have many, many more examples.

I'm going to bring this into the high school classroom. Examining news sources and finding the bias. Learning to confirm facts through multiple sources. Deciphering fake news from legitimate news. Curcumventing sensationalism in order to find important information.

Sorry, I did not see this post until now. Too busy responding to all the other posts.

When I refer to corruption, I am referring to the supposed main stream media. We all know that the blogs are corrupt, both left and right. We all know talk radio is corrupt, both left and right. They don't hide anything. They tell you their point of view, either right wing or left wing. No secrets.

I am talking about the hard news divisions that are supposed to be unbiased. Outlets like the NY Times, the Wash Post, the LA Times, the Chicago Tribune, ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN amongst many others.

These are no longer bastions of unbiased journalism. They never were, but they were much better at being fairer in year's past. But as I pointed out, they were still deeply to the left and reported from that perspective, just not as much. Thus, Walter Durante won a Pulitzer Prize for his absolutely and knowingly false reporting of the Soviet Union and Uncle Joe.

Today, they don't even try and hide their bias which I now call corruption because it is planned and executed. Look at the employees at each of the above outlets. Name just one conservative at ABC, CBS, NBC or CNN that anchors a show. The most unbiased, Imo, is Jake Tapper and he is a Democrat. You can't because there are not any.

They choose the stories to cover. They don't cover Gosnell trial because it dealt with mass murder of children after botched abortions. They don't cover the March for Life protests in DC. They cover the daylights out of BLM or any of those protests. Studies have shown that 91% of Trump coverage during the general election was negative. Very different and very positive coverage of Trump during the primary. Why? We all know why?

I can give you countless examples (that you will poo poo) of this corruption in both the stories they cover, the stories they don't cover and their actual coverage. Even the Ombudsman of the NY Times admits their bias (although not their corruption). The chief editor at the Times admitted that they don't understand religion. How is that even possible?

Look at Obama's coverage in 2008 vs. Clinton's? Left on left violence. All planned and executed. Again, when they called Billy Clinton a racist, you had to know the corruption existed. At one time, they called Billy the first black President.

Of course there is no mention of Fox in your diatribe. Obviously there is some bias in the media both right and left but people just need to sort through it, it's not difficult. Having a so called president who tries to discredit the intelligence community, the media and now the judicial branch, now that's a problem that all Americans should be concerned about.

Fox caters to the right. No doubt. Their hard news is different. Shep Smith is a liberal (beyond dispute). Chris Wallace is a registered democrat. I don't know Bret Baier's affiliation.

I also did not include MSNBC for the same reasons. We all know Fox's and MSNBC's opinion journalists are biased. They announce it.

The media has discredited itself. It needed no help from Trump. And Obama did all he could to delegitimize Fox. Goes both ways, except Trump has more targets. Obama definitely tried to discredit the judiciary. Don't you remember the pillaging SCOTUS took during Obama's State of the Union, where Alito mouthed the words, No? And Obama threw the Intelligence Committee under the bus blaming them for the rise of ISIS and he was blameless since they didn't warn him (he lied, they did)

Selective memory I guess.
