All we have to do is run the zone read option over, and over, and over and they can't stop it.

How much easier can it get?

They made Chris Relf look like Sleepy Robinson out there.

after beating the ever-loving shat out of them with less talent, I am not worried about anyone over on their sideline.

I love that we won the game, but i've seen Coach Nix, for many years, take avg. players and produce outstanding defenses...

Don't judge Nix on one game....He's a solid coach, and i think he's the best coach on OleMiss' sideline...

You would think that such a great defensive coach would watch enough film to know how to defend out most basic offensive play

Which of his defenses were outstanding with average players?

USM has **** for defense and they wouldn't even touch him. He's probably not even being considered for the FL job. He's probably spreading the rumor. Wouldn't be the first time.

then why was Spurrier about to fire him before he landed the Mississippi job?

Let me just say that he doesn't think that much about Nix. Funny thing was two years ago when he was hired he said that the biggest problem with Nix was that he couldn't stop a spread offense and was even worse against the option. Basically, he thought that Nix was horrible and said that State should be happy that he's there.

Now, I'm sure that my friend would be kind of surprised at the success that Ole Miss has had with him based on my conversation, but Nix did inherit a good bit of talent including a first round pick DT in Peria Jerry as well as a several d-linemen that are going to the NFL, and some pretty good LB's and safeties like JaMarca Sanford.

At the same time, when he was at USM, he was very young, and it's quite possible that he has gotten better. He's wanted for a reason, I guess.

So, I don't know. I did wonder why he never even tried to adjust his defense- or at least it looked like they didn't adjust.

Nix's best defenses have been when he was the 1st year coordinator and they have progressively gottten worse after that. Nix's genius is a fabrication of the media. The pumping of his defense is the equivalent of Croom being called the best coach ever in the state of Mississippi. Please UM! Do all things you can to keep this guy.

We will see i guess - he's getting paid a lot of money 300K plus...doesn't mean he's a great coach, but i haven't watched as closely as some of you while he's been at Mississippi.

Next year I don't think you'll even be able to make that statement. The "less talent" part, that is. Not with all the players they're losing.

Bower encouraged Nix to leave for a change of scenery after he took a tough defense and ultimately sent it sliding.

Spurrier invited Nix to leave USC before he came to Ole Miss. This "hot coaching prospect" was given no more than a courtesy interview by USM two years ago because anyone who knows **** in Hattiesburg knows he can't recruit worth a lick- he learned under Bower, the master of the two-star class, and doesn't improve defenses.

I wouldn't call Torbush the best DC ever, but he didn't do a solid job this year with a severe lack of experienced talent.

Better than average players I would guess.

ETA: Have we really not had a player selected in the draft since 2007?

Joe Lee Dunn 2.0

The new, but not necessarily improved, model of the Joe Lee Dunn gimmick defense. Too bad that blitzing style does not work too well against the spread option offense.

I think Nix is dogwater. After going to the game and laughing my *** off at the total domination of the 3rd quarter in this year's Egg bowl, I would like for those bastards to keep his ***.

Also, I watched the Egg bowl replay a couple of days later and took particular notice at one certain play that I think happened in the second quarter:

During one series, an OM LB got put on his *** by a block by either Elliott, Stallworth or maybe it was Green can't remember. Well, Nix went complete APE **** on the sidelines. Then the replay continued. Nix began motioning this LB to the sideline. By way of reading lips on the TV screen, Nix was still going complete APE **** and told the LB to either "kill his *** with an elbow or punk his *** with an elbow or kill that MFer with an elbow"

Again, I was reading mouths from the TV screen (so not completely sure what he said) but basically told that LB to kill the MFer MSU player next time. HAHA - It was soo damn funny to watch.

I think for a coach like Nix to go complete APE **** over one play confirms they should keep their "great" Defensive Co.
