for the 3-4 and how Diaco is going to put his stamp on the defense. I am however worried about all the weight gain and "getting stronger" talk. Just seen from past experiences that to much of getting stronger has produced slower players.

Thoughts??

I hadn't seen that. Who was it in reference to? I would say the front 3 and 2 ILB will need to be bigger and stronger in this D, but those other six need to be able to fly around.

Adding strength doesn't make a player slower. Being slower makes you slower.

Our fan base places a little too much stock in how conditioning molds a player and is the difference between winning and losing. When you're talking about evenly talented teams it plays a role.

Bottom line though, too much lifting doesn't halt Luke Gifford from becoming Reuben Foster. Its about genetics.

Well my next question is. Do you think we have the linebackers back from last year who can who can pack on muscle and not lose speed?

Yes! Various articles have quotes from players in regards to this. They are involved with the various staff and coaches to get to an ideal projected weight for them - their speed and agility is monitored as they go, to monitor effect. Remember, with Boyd back, we are also a research facility; with the benefit of his experience - this flows through the various staffs.... One also might consider the great coaching job Coach Bray did molding young linebackers - The DC has this as an area of expertise also. The coaches and staffs are doing all possible to create a dramatic D turn-around now. The players have to play though; I like our guys. GBR

I just love the fact that we have great offensive minds in Riley and Langs and now we are matching it up with one of the best D Cords in the country, brought in one of the best DB coaches and one of the most experienced DB coaches to go with our DC. In a few years (assuming no one leaves and everyone stays put coaching wise) we will have a great offense with a great defense. In a few years we will be in for the Big 10 champ every year. Trav the orical....;)
