I'm torn on this. Yes, it was huge, but at the time I went in thinking we were so good that it wouldn't be. The disappointment there added to the meaning of this year's game.
Off the top of my head, I'd say it's the biggest since 2001 USC.

I put 2007 Alabama up there too. Hell, we hadn't sniffed a winning season since 2000. A win over Nick Saban makes us bowl eligible and FINALLY gives us some hope for the future. When AJ ran back that pick I've never heard that stadium so loud.

Are you for real?

Care to elaborate? 2007 Alabama.... Really? You picked that game. Tell me I have missed the sarcasterisks.

It was to become bowl eligible for the first time in seven years. It was against Alabama. And it was a complete toss-up heading into it. What about that wasn't a huge game for us at the time?

There are games this big every year.

We could realistically lose this game and still go 8-4, just like in 2010 when everyone claimed the Auburn game was the difference between 8-4 and 5-7 or whatever it was that year.

a second game just isn't that big.................

a game that magnitude of what some of your are making it has to be later in the season.

As far as a fan's perspective, I disagree. Now, as far as overall success of the season, you're right. It's just one game. But there's so much more to this game. We're all sick of hearing about how Mullen can't beat anyone that matters in the West. We're all sick of losing close games to Auburn, specifically. This game could be a springboard to anywhere from 4-0 to 7-0, and after that, anything can happen. A win keeps the dream alive and the wool thick.

More importantly, this game marks a very tangible "next step" in our program's progression. If we don't take it, it starts to feel like we're spinning our wheels a little bit. A win wouldn't exactly be season-defining, but a loss would be very discouraging.

Yes...I said 2007 Alabama, the win put State bowl eligible and everyone knew that we had a legitimate shot to win. All week there was just the feeling in the air that it was gonna be special and it was and the rest is history. Now you can go ahead and bash me but before you do, just know that each and every single one of you bought in to the program that year regardless of how much you hate walrus now, you actually believed that things were starting to change

Yea it was a big game...but a bigger game than this week? I think not....

Hind sight is always 20/20 but that game really did nothing for our program. Saban is now running the most powerful program in College Football history and Croom is checking curfew. We had to purge our team aGAIN 2 years after that game. Year we went bowling... and then lost to LA Tech.

At the time yea it was a big game but this week could set the tone for Mullen going forward in a much bigger way than Croom Pick 6ing his way to Memphis.

2009 Egg Bowl, easily.....

There have been a number of games over the years that have set the tone for the next few years, that Egg Bowl domination was one of them.

Others:

2001 South Carolina: Donkey kicked us and set the tone for 6 years of suckitude.
1996 Alabama: This doesn't even need to be explained, sent us rolling towards '97-'00.
1991 Texas: Introduced us to how King Jackie rolled.

This Auburn game, in my opinion, isn't in the same league as those games. It will, however, set the tone for the season, much like 1992 Florida, 1994 Tennessee, 2000 Florida. At the same time, we can still lose and have a great season, much like 2010.

State has played since when?

There really isn't a bigger one in my opinion. Especially not for Mullen. If he loses this one, his seat does not get hot but he definitely loses some luster from a fans perspective.
