Expectations for 2020

I know it's kind of hard to predict since we aren't done finalizing a staff and roster but... What is everyone's expectations?

- Which of the guys that we signed so far will contribute right away?
- Who starts the season at QB?
- How many wins do you expect to win?

I am predicting four (but would love five) wins next year while actually competing and not being annihilated like previous teams. I would love to start the season at 3-0 or at least 2-1. I think Sit starts the season at QB unless something drastically changes. In reference to who contributes right away I want to wait and see who else is coming to Rutgers. I would love to put Berger in here.

That said what are your expectations for next season?

I would settle for four wins and taking the more elite teams like OSU and Michigan into the late third quarter before they empty their bench.

Recruit, Recruit and Recruit some more.

For 2020 on field results in terms of Ws and Ls, my expectations are close to zero. I would like to see improvements over the course of the season, more games like scoring 21 points against OSU or playing Penn State tough for 3 quarters.

Although I have full confidence Coach Schiano will turn this around and will be playing competitive football, IMO the talent deficiency is a black hole that will take multiple seasons to climb out of, noting hopefully, the Transfer Portal will speed the timing up.

How can we even talk about starting QB without knowing the OC / offensive style?

I think we are getting ahead of it, we now need ghouls staff to be filled out.

I would like to see 3 things:
1. 4 Wins - Take care of Monmouth and then win 3 of 6 against Syracuse, Temple, Illinois, Purdue, Indiana and Maryland.
2. Competitive games at the start of the 3rd quarter with everyone else on the schedule (except maybe the Buckeyes)
3. A Top 40 recruiting class.

  • Closer games without playing turtle ball
  • 5 wins
  • PSU is our de facto bowl game (at home!)

I have very conservative hopes for next season. With it taking so long for Rutgers to decide on GS, we really lost much needed time to work the system for flips and the like. Although there hopefully will be some important surprises to come, it will still be a patchwork quilt of a team.
I may be in the minority in saying that I am not looking forward to seeing Sit at QB. His resume speaks for itself and him not playing 2/3rd of the season means he lost very valuable game experience. I really hope we can pick up a transfer or JUCO with good game experience with Langan in the second seat. Sit has not earned the job.
I would hope for 3 wins at least.

If you guys expect 6 wins in year 1, GS is a guaranteed failure. Those expectations are much too high. The excitement in recruiting is great, but it really has to do with how much he’s done in how little time. We’re still 13th ranked with this class and from a mean ratings standpoint, we’re 14th. The transfer portal may or may not be kind and GS and staff are drawing up plays for CA guys who are about as raw as they were when they came from high school. 3-4 wins is a more likely outcome.

The last four years, we have had such incomplete teams, strength and depth in certain positions groups little to no depth in other positions groups. We had a good TEs 2016-18 but nothing, 2019. QB have been a cluster**** for 4 years, leading to underdeveloped WRs for 4 years. DBs had talent 2016-17, not so much last 2 years but there are pieces being undercoached, where as LBs not so good 2016-17 have been getting much stronger and deeper over the last 2 years. DL and OL have have been patchwork and inconsistant over 4 years. RB have never complained between grad transfers and recruiting considering our OL. I'm not so down on the WRs after the last 8 games in 2019 with Washington, Melton and even Dremel looked in that last game, just need the right WR coach. Kicking has been solid for the most part of 4 years. Schiano can have a quick turn around in 2020 if he fixes the position groups like OL, DL, TE, and QB most importantly and the easy start to the schedule.

Remember this is as bad as when Schiano came to Rutgers the first time or worst

Yes, and also remember that over the last two seasons we have only won 3 games combined. To double that total in the first year would mean that the team is way ahead of schedule.

I don’t know what will become of the transfer portal . But the roster is complete crap and won’t be overhauled with more talented veterans until 2023. It will be a long build but I am confident schiano can get us to respectability. As for 2020 anything more than 3 wins would be nice .

Sadly I’m starting low.

Score 20ppg
That would have put us at #115 last year (we were actually 13.3ppg #129).

Scoring 24ppg (Top 100 - UAB and Iowa) should be goal.

6 wins. Minor bowl.
I am in the 6 WIN camp too. This time we have a Real HC and a competent staff for him to work with.Sprinkle a little SCHIANO DUST ,wave the Magic Wand and chant "watch out B1G here comes the Scarlet Express"

I have very low expectations because of where we are right now. When GS took the job in 2001 he said things may get worse before they get better and he was right. We can't be fixated on what the program was like when he left and think he'll pick right up where he left off or even close to that. He is inheriting a very different program in a brutal division.

This is very unrealistic forecast from an RU fan expectation standpoint.

2020 is a grace year for Greg, as he restructures the roster and starts to bring in new players. 2021 is also likely to be a rebuilding year.

What can accelerate team success is if we can bring in a playmaker at QB. But we don’t have that in this class yet. Can we get one next recruiting season?

Impossible to predict until I see the full coaching staff and what happens with transfers.
But, I am looking for 4 wins. We have 7 games with at least a fighting chance. What I do expect- this team to come out and play from end to end every single game.

Not to be Debbie downer but next year I’m hoping for 3 wins and finally getting a conference win. It will be a few years at least before we go bowling. This thread is proving what I was worried about which is with Greg back many of our fans are expecting instant results. 4 wins next year imo would be a hell of a job, but first let’s just try to get a conference win
