We're mad and skeptical because you're flipping our biggest recruits.
In 2008, did we steal any recruits that had committed to ole miss?

in any year, if three of OM's top commits, during a dead period while OM was playing in a NYD bowl game and State was sitting at home, decommitted from OM and then two weeks later basically chose State, would you and your Rebel friends think something fishy was going on?
See our 2008 class following the 2007 season and a coaching change, or see our 2005 class following the 2004 season and coaching change, or see your 2004 class following the dismal 2003 season and coaching change.
The transition between coaches usually means you're going to have to pick up a lot of leftovers, and you're going to lose a lot of players who haven't built relationships with the new staff. Those classes usually end up with a lot of attrition as well due to the fact that they jump into a situation with a staff they may not have a bond with already.
That's why a coaching change can be so difficult, even if you do make a splash hire. Recruits will still go where they're comfortable.
I think your 2009 class can be explained a good bit by the fact that so many of those in-state guys in particular got to know each other and felt comfortable sticking together despite the coaching change. Typically it doesn't give you a recruiting boost to change coaches in December/January before signing day.

Tyler Russell was from a huge State family as were some of the others. But that class was going to hell and Mullen came in at the right time to pull it out of the fire and add to it.
I expect a much better class next year with a 'Gator Bowl' bump and having a new recruiting coordinator in Geoff Collins. We just hit the perfect storm this year with Hud and Diaz leaving and Nutt being backed into a corner. This class could certainly be better but we did get some good talent on the Lines which we need. Plus Dak Prescott will be a star in Mullen's system sooner or later. </p>

to keep bringing this up and we've been through this over and over. That year was completely different in that all we did was hold guys through a bad season and coaching change that had been committed to us all along. We certainly didn't flip any Ole Miss commitments. We DID lose Patterson because of our lousy season. Mullen added Bumphis and Perkins after he arrived because of his style offense but we would NOT have gotten those guys had we kept Croom. For this many top HS in-state guys to flip in the last month and a half from the in-state team that had the good year and has everything positive going to the team that had the bad year, some obvious internal issues and a less than enthusiastic game atmosphere this year is unprecedented in the nearly 3 decades I've kept up with recruiting. Definitely curious to say the least.

Look at the recruit list, half of the 4 star players are either Juco our OOS. We got a lot of kids from Philly, Meridian, Tupelo, Fulton, Louisville etc... Those places are typically State areas. Same as SP and MC are Ole Miss schools for whatever reason.

Thinking something is going to happen over this is a dumb as OM fans thinking something would happen over Elliott or Pegues.
And again, I can point to our 2008 class when we moved from an unproven coach with a 3-21 SEC record to a proven veteran coach with a 42-38 SEC record, and I think we signed 1 player that was committed prior to Nutt's hire, a player that never made it to campus.
That's more typical of a transition class than holding onto what you already have AND adding to it, despite the change and a really poor season prior.

but I do know he decommitted from us the week after the infamous 3-2 Auburn game where our offense looked like a trainwreck.
The spread offense rage was in full force and Mullen was portrayed as the Co-Architect of one of the most prolific offenses in college football history. That's a far cry from Nutt's fall from grace at Arkansas. (not to get in a pissing match, he's a good coach).

Its pretty obvious that its anything goes in SEC recruiting right now and the SEC office is going to keep everything under wraps because the mantra is just everybody stays off probation. Even so I would prefer MSU to try and run a relatively clean program even if it costs us a few players here and there.

What can be learned from the Newton thing so far. First, compliance staff at individual schools in the SEC must also serve as the investigative team to prove wrong doing. Slive has said as much. The SEC office is not an investigative body and MSU didn't provide enough evidence in a time frame to suit him. Second, the accuser is the guilty party. Or as I believe I heard Slive say in one of his press conferences, "He who smelt it dealt it."

re-read 8dog and missouridog's original replys to this thread and that's where msu fans are coming from. As a die hard rebel can you not take a step back and see that something shady went down with CJ Johnson? Nutt isn't that good of a recruiter.
