Exposure; what does this mean?

I understand football>basketball> baseball. I think college baseball is almost a niche sport; bigger in the south than anywhere else, but what does this really do for our program

would you rather be an elite 8 in basketball or in the finals of the CWS?
Is this even a worthy comparison?

One advantage... there isn't crap happening in the sports world right now outside of hockey.

We should have a solid audience for this series.

We should have a solid audience for this series.

Understatement of the year. I know you're referring to TV audience, but by all reports this is the largest crowd in Omaha for a championship series ever and it's 90% maroon.

Let that sink in. The last 3 years I've watched USC football games where they mentioned winning baseball championships. USC got a LOT of exposure for doing something not out of the norm - back to back titles happen fairly often. We win a championship with all the storylines this team and school have right now... You bet your *** we'll get a lot of exposure for this. And I think the in-person crowd is going to be a major reason for that.

If Dan & Co. aren't telling every kid they're recruiting to watch these games to see the crowd and then turn that into "we have the most loyal fans ever" and all sorts of recruiting jargon they should be fired. ESPN beating off about our crowd and hearing "maroon white" in the background is a lot more concrete than Hugh Freeze telling kids they have 3 BCS titles he can't show them and preaching to the choir about fan support that hasn't been seen since they banned rebel flags from games.

We have tickets workers telling our fans that no school has ever shown up like this.....the crowd will be as lopsided as ever before-----all MSU

Winning the CWS is better than being in the Elite 8 and even the Final 4, just because of how huge it is to have a national championship in any of the 3 major sports. Obviously most teams in the SEC West have at least one national championship in one of the big three, but I'm guessing it's a little rarer outside of the SEC. Also, it would be nice to leave UM and (maybe A&M?) as the only team(s) in the SECW without one.

Being in the CWS title game versus Elite 8 is a close call to me. You get good exposure with each, but outside of the diehards, not many people will remember in a few years (and lots of people won't be aware of the CWS title game teams at all). I think an elite 8 appearance is remembered for longer than a CWS title game appearance, so I'd probably go with Elite 8.

Maybe it means that the Old Southern Mississippi State Rebels will finally be recognized (maybe)

I still don't think that the CWS compares to the Elite 8 or the Final Four. You get much more exposure in basketball.

What I hope this exposure does for us is that it shows young baseball players that Mississippi State is the place to go to win championships. We can show them that we have fan support that is second to none in the country.
