Various online outlets are reporting that the NCAA is likely to follow the precedent set for spring and fall ‘20 athletes and extend an extra year of eligibility to winter ‘21 athletes in the coming days. Not sure how this will effect scholarship caps moving forward, but if it happens, it’s safe to assume that a program like ours will benefit, as ending up with several 6-year super seniors who have 5 seasons of experience can only help (Ryan Young, Chase Audige). Should also be exciting to see how much Pete Nance can improve with an extra season in the program, should he take it. Robbie Beran and Miller Kopp as well. And Collins can now have Nicholson back up Young without worrying about whether it would be better to redshirt him.
Also potentially in the works is a new NCAA transfer policy where moving forward all athletes could receive a one-time transfer waiver where they’d be immediately eligible. This change should be voted on in January, and could go either way for a program like ours.
